Arab Daily: US Risking War with Russia in Quest for Syrian Oil

TEHRAN (FNA)- A leading Arab newspaper said Washington has come close to military confrontation with Moscow in a bid to find control over Syria's oil and gas fields.

The Arabic-language al-Akhabar daily referred to the recent US attacks on the Russian forces who fought alongside the Syrian army's 5th Brigade and al-Baggara tribal forces during their advance towards Omar and Koniko oil fields, and said before launching the offensive, Washington had conducted extensive surveillance operations and was aware of the identity of the forces it attacked.

Al-Akhbar further reminded that the US is using the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) who have occupied the country's oil and gas fields as its mercenaries, while it supports establishment of an independent Kurdish government in Eastern Euphrates, which are all meant to cut off the energy rich regions in Eastern Syria from the mainland to keep them under the control of Washington and its hirelings in Syria.
