En av Gripens största styrkor är "Bang for the buck", och det säger sig självt att det inte går att sälja ett billigt alternativ till ett land där politikerna knappt bryr sig om kostnaden.
As I wrote in my first post, i doubt JAS Gripen would have been chosen even if it was free.
The most important aspect of this airplane acquisition is WHO is selling it, personally i think Eurofighter and F-35 were the only ones that would be bought.
USA has shown itself as a trustworthy military partner for half a century, where they have given us quite a lot in terms of both hardware, expertise and actual cash. USA has also shown itself to not be particularly afraid of going to full out war when they feel they should.
Not many Norwegians would think the same of Sweden.
Russia would absolutely steamroll Norway no matter what airplane we had, a few bomb runs / missile strikes would take out our airfields and airplanes.
We count on American carriers to come to our aid, a long with rest of NATO to help us.
Would, and more importantly COULD Sweden realistically do the same?
Why would it even benefit is to buy into a partnership with a country which spends less on the military then we do?

I doubt Sweden would have acted differently, had the roles been reversed.
