A bizarre belief among many African black men that sex with a virgin -- even a child or baby -- can cure HIV/AIDS is fueling what is already one of the highest child sexual exploitation rates in the world.

Two of the stereotypes surrounding
serial killers are that they are almost always White males and that African American
males are barely represented in their ranks. In a sample of 413 serial killers operating in
the United States from 1945 to mid-2004, it was found that 90 were African American.

Biological offspring continued to rank higher in IQ scores than white
adoptees, who were followed in ranking by black/interracial adoptees and
Asian/Indian adoptees, respectively. Adoptees with two black parents scored

Summary Recent editorials in this journal have defended the right of eminent biologist James Watson to raise the unpopular hypothesis that people of sub-Saharan African descent score lower, on average, than people of European or East Asian descent on tests of general intelligence. As those editorials imply, the scientific evidence is substantial in showing a genetic contribution to these differences. The unjustified ill treatment meted out to Watson therefore requires setting the record straight about the current state of the evidence on intelligence, race, and genetics.
In this paper, we summarize our own previous reviews based on 10 categories of evidence: The worldwide distribution of test scores; the g factor of mental ability; heritability differences; brain size differences; trans-racial adoption studies; racial admixture studies; regression-to-the-mean effects; related life-history traits; human origins research; and the poverty of predictions from culture-only explanations.

A 60-page review of the scientific evidence, some based on state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of brain size, has concluded that race differences in average IQ are largely genetic.

Rape seems to be on the increase in Ghana. This may be because more victims are coming forward to talk about the crime. But just because more rapes are being reported does not mean that more rapists are being punished. Our reporter Lois Beckett found that more than half of rape cases never make it to trial—simply because victims cannot afford the cost.

It’s a simple medical form that requires a doctor’s signature. Without it, a rape victim has no chance of winning a case against her attacker. But getting the form signed costs 150,000 to 300,000 cedis. As a result, officials estimate, more than half of rape victims simply give up their hope of justice. Ghana’s new Domestic Violence Act, passed this May, specifies that victims of domestic violence are “entitled to free medical treatment from the State.” But the law is yet to be implemented. Until specific funding is allocated for their treatment, victims themselves still have to pay for the form that records the medical evidence of rape.

Ama Agbodaze, a social worker, puts the number even higher. On average, she said, for every ten victims she gives a medical form to fill out, at most two or three return. According to this estimate, 70 to 80 percent of victims choose not to pursue justice past an initial visit to the police station. “They can’t afford the medical bill,” Ms. Agbodaze said, adding, “that’s why they don’t come back.” It’s not the medical examination that costs money, but the form itself, according to Commander Borquaye.
