Israeli colonists injure Palestinians, including four children, in Sheikh Jarrah

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Illegal Israeli colonialist settlers injured, on Monday evening, several Palestinians, including four children, in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, in occupied Jerusalem, while Israeli soldiers also assaulted the residents and abducted many.

Eyewitnesses said the soldiers, squatting in the illegally confiscated al-Ghawi building, attacked many Palestinians with chairs and rocks.

They added that the soldiers also tried to punch and kick several Palestinians, leading to scuffles, before the soldiers invaded the neighborhood, broke into homes, and fired concussion grenades.

During the assault, the colonists pepper-sprayed the faces of four Palestinian girls (12 to 14 years of age) under the protection of the Israeli police in the neighborhood

In related news, the soldiers invaded Silwan town, in Jerusalem, leading to protests in the Be’er Ayyoub neighborhood, and fired many concussion grenades before abducting a Palestinian child.

The attack is part of the constant Israeli violations in Sheikh Jarrah, especially amidst the Israeli plans to displace and remove the indigenous Palestinians to replace them with illegal colonialist settlers.

The UN estimates that more than 10,000 Palestinians have left their homes and sought shelter in 29 UNRWA schools. Israel has reportedly caused massive damage to businesses, electricity and water infrastructure, roads and farmland. Three hospitals have reportedly been damaged: the hospital in Beit Hanoun, the Indonesian Hospital and the Hala a-Shawa Medical Center (currently not operating).

The Israeli airstrikes are targeting one of the most densely populated places in the world, already gripped by a humanitarian crisis caused, in part, by 14 years of Israeli blockade imposed on its roughly two million residents. Most of Gaza’s residents live in abject poverty and inhuman conditions.

In the current circumstances, Israel is showing no sign of changing its policy. B’Tselem reiterates that the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague has already launched an investigation into Israel’s actions, including alleged war crimes committed during the fighting in 2014. Israel is now implementing precisely the same policy that the ICC is examining. While welcome, the investigation, which will be protracted, is not enough. The violence has to stop now. That is why the international community must step in immediately and use its leverage to force Israel to change its policy, before it claims even more victims.
