The Nammo smoke hand grenade TTC was developed in response to concerns over other in-service smoke grenades which may have been responsible for serious lung damage when the smoke was ingested. The plastic body grenade uses a new concept of the explosive dissemination of a liquid, Titanium Tetrachloride (TTC), which in contact with the humidity in the air will produce a smoke screen with a minimum diameter of 10 metres within 3 seconds. No flames are produced and the grenade is suitable for use in training areas with a high fire risk. Although Hydrochloric acid is produced as a byproduct, the grenade filling contains chalk/dolomite which is separated from the TTC. The chalk is disseminated together with the smoke agent and will neutralise 70 to 80 per cent of the hydrochloric acid, reducing the negative effect on the environment.
