Russian forces advance near Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad — DeepState
Difficult situation persists on the Pokrovsk axis, the Eastern grouping of forces reported on April 22. In particular, Russian troops are stepping up offensive operations, increasing the number of assaults, and accumulating forces in the south of the city.
The occupiers have almost completely swallowed Myrnohrad, and the Ukrainian military considers it "inexpedient" to hold positions on the northern outskirts of the city, soldiers fighting on the Pokrovsk axis told NV's sister outlet Ukrainska Pravda on April 20.
Ukrainian forces repel 52 Russian attacks on Pokrovsk front – Ukraine’s General Staff
A total of 226 combat clashes have occurred on the battlefield over the past day, with the Russians conducting 52 attacks on the Pokrovsk front.
Russia is storming Kramatorsk sector with motorcycles and armoured vehicles, – 24th SMB
The occupiers are trying to move the motorcycles closer to the front line and then launch attacks, looking for weak spots in the defences.
"They are pulling these motorbikes by hand. They get as close as they can. Using these same motorcycles, but in a group of 10 units supported by 3–5 armoured vehicles, the enemy attempted last week to advance and launch an assault from several directions," said the head of the communications department of the 24th Separate Mechanised Brigade named after King Danylo
Russians continue advance on Pokrovsk direction, amassing forces in southeastern part of city – 7th Airborne Corps
Ukraine’s defence forces are currently holding positions on the northern outskirts of Pokrovsk. In the southeastern part of the city, the enemy is attempting to mass heavy equipment, including artillery and tanks. Ukrainian forces are detecting and engaging enemy equipment with fire. Work to detect and destroy enemy command posts and drone operator positions is also ongoing.
Fighting intensifies near Pokrovsk as Russian forces step up offensive in Donetsk region
Ukrainian forces have reported a worsening situation near the city of Rodynske, located close to Pokrovsk, according to an update from the “East” military grouping, posted on their official Facebook page.
According to the “East” group, conditions along the Pokrovsk axis remain challenging. Russian troops recently stepped up their offensive in the vicinity of Hryshyne, a settlement near Pokrovsk. Now, Ukrainian sources say the situation is also deteriorating near Rodynske.
Sloviansk Community Has More Than 200 Water Intake Wells
“We are drilling wells and updating the count every week; the number is increasing... We already have up to 200 wells, and those are just the ones we've drilled, but people also have their own,” Liakh said.
According to him, the community is preparing for the possibility that water supply may be interrupted due to shelling of water infrastructure facilities on the Siverskyi Donets River.
Russia seizes nearly 3 sq km on outskirts of Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, but lacks full control – DeepState
"The enemy advanced near Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad," the project reported on its Telegram channel on Tuesday.
However, the report does not suggest the full capture of these cities. DeepState maps show that Russia managed to seize 2.85 sq km on the northeastern outskirts of Pokrovsk and the northwestern outskirts of Myrnohrad over the past day, partially gaining a foothold in the penetration area, which the enemy does not yet fully control.

Russian forces attempt to advance on all front sectors – Defense Forces
"The situation is quite unstable right now, because the Russians are trying to advance on all fronts, adjusting their tactics and varying their intensity. Over the last few weeks and days, they have been focusing, for example, on the Lyman sector or on moving toward Vovchansk. Therefore, I cannot single out any specific sector for the week," Tregubov said.
Video: Austrian Colonel Analyzes Russia-Ukraine Drone-Driven Stalemate as Summer Offensive Looms
Reisner anticipates a Russian summer offensive, what he labels Phase 10 of the war, concentrated in the Donbas with supporting efforts toward Kharkiv, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia.
Reisner highlights a widening burden on Ukraine driven by Washington’s pivot toward the Middle East. The Pentagon is reportedly weighing diversions of Ukraine-bound aid to support operations against Iran, and President Donald Trump has threatened to halt weapons shipments unless European allies commit further.
The attrition math on air defense is stark: 800 interceptors were expended in the first three days of the Middle East conflict, while Ukraine has received roughly 600 Patriot rounds across nearly 1,500 days of war.
Vadym Sukharevskyi, Ukrainian army colonel: ‘War is closer than many European countries believe’
“Without our current drone capabilities, we would need three to five times more soldiers,” Sukharevskyi calculates, based on statistics and military theory. Without drones, in a conventional war, Ukraine would have fallen long ago because, in this war of attrition, recruitment is one of its weak points.
Ukraine does not have Russia’s manpower resources. Ukrainian Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov revealed last January that more than two million Ukrainian men of conscription age are living in hiding to avoid being drafted. Fedorov also noted that official figures indicate that at least 200,000 soldiers have deserted, equivalent to more than 20% of the Ukrainian army.
Putin increases Russia's regular army personnel to nearly 2.4 million
Russia's regular army has grown to 2,391,770 personnel. Of these, 1,502,640 will serve as active-duty troops — 2,640 more than before, according to the March 4 decree.[...]
Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, told Sky News on Dec. 5, 2025, that more than 710,000 Russian troops were deployed along the front lines in Ukraine. By comparison, the Ukrainian army totaled 880,000 soldiers as of Jan. 15, 2025, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Amid the growing Russian threat in the region, Zelensky continues to urge European partners to establish joint forces of at least 3 million personnel. The president also warned that Russia plans to expand its regular army to 2.5 million by 2030.
