Haha sorgligt.
I’m likely guilty of this “prediction” in your eyes, but I ran the numbers based on the amounts required for herd immunity. I’m guessing other people in here saying, “look, we can do this — but this is what it’ll cost us to see it through to completion” did the same thing.
It’s important to remember that we’re only just seeing the first wave die down and that it was stemmed primarily by the late spring/early summer. It’s a long time until we might see the same effect if a second wave starts again in the autumn. I’m hoping that summer can help reduce the R0 further than the 0.7 it’s currently at and that it will effectively be crushed to a level where we can prevent a second wave from occurring with tracing and testing. I’m sick of this virus. I’m sick of having it effect everybody’s lives and drawing divides between people. I’m sick of seeing the death tolls alongside the long-term damage it has brought to many people.
But I’m also wary that this might not be the case, because life is rarely easy. But I am glad for a respite, however long it may be.
