Hävdar du att "ner är alltid inåt mot jordens mitt" så tar du för givet att gravitationsteorin stämmer och att jorden är en snurrande "boll".
I Zetetic Astronomy kan man läsa följande:
"The hypothesis of a universal force called Gravitation is based upon, and was indeed invented with a view to support another hypothesis, namely, that the earth and sea together make up a vast globe, whirling away through space, and therefore needing some force or forces to guide it in its mad career, and so control it as to make it conform to what is called its annual orbit round the sun.” (14)
Newton var ju en frimurare precis som de flesta andra män som på senare tid har placerats på höga piedestaler och vilkas teorier man har presenterat och lärt ut som den ultimata sanningen. Teorin om gravitationskraftens existens kan ju ha tillkommit som en hypotes som skulle ge stöd åt den tidigare hypotesen om jordens form. Men det finns en annan alternativ förklaring som i så fall visar på att Newton hade fel när han hittade på gravitationskraften:
Gravitation är egentligen densitet.
Om ett objekts densitet är lägre än omgivande luft eller vatten så stiger objektet. Om ett objekts densitet är högre än omgivande luft eller vatten så sjunker det. Lägger du en träbit på vattenytan så flyter den. Lägger du en stor sten på vattenytan så sjunker den. Blåser du upp en ballong med helium eller vätgas som är substanser som väger mindre än kväve, syre och alla andra komponenter som utgör luften som omringar ballongen så kommer ballongen att börja stiga uppåt. Om du håller en sten i din handflata och vänder på handen så kommer stenen att trilla till marken därför att stenen har en mycket högre densitet än luften runt omkring.

For, if such attraction existed, why does not the Earth attract the rising smoke which is not nearly so heavy as the apple? The answer is simple - because the smoke is lighter than the air, and, therefore, does not fall but ascends.
