"What payment cards can I add to the Curve Wallet:
You can add most of your Visa, Mastercard®, Diners Club, Discover debit, and credit cards to Curve. It doesn't matter if the card is virtual or physical – if we support it, you shouldn't have any problem adding it to your Curve Wallet! We don't currently support American Express, Maestro, JCB or UnionPay cards and from the 8th February 2023, new customers will no longer be able to add Visa cards issued outside of the UK or EEA to their Curve account. As of the 4th of April 2023, existing customers will no longer be able to add additional non-UK/EEA Visa cards to their account. However, existing non-UK/EEA Visa cards can still be replaced but only if both cards are issued from the same country."

"Non UK/EEA cards
Please note, your first card must be a UK or European Economic Area (EEA) issued debit or credit card. You're welcome to add non-EEA cards once you receive and activate your Curve card - however you may be charged a fee when making transactions using these cards, you can read more about International card fees here."

https://www.chase.com/personal/credit-cards/education/basics/how-virtual-credit-card-numbers-protect-information

"Understanding virtual credit cards
Virtual credit cards are digital versions of traditional physical cards that do not use your card’s actual information. Instead, each transaction has a unique token. This means that each digital transaction uses a different set of numbers.

How virtual credit cards offer security and protection
Virtual credit cards use tokenization and encryption to mask your card’s data and securely transmit it. Your card’s real numbers are kept in a digital vault. When you use a virtual credit card, your credit card number is replaced with a randomly generated number, or token, for each transaction.

Encryption converts the data into a code that can only be interpreted with the correct decryption key. When a transaction is processed, the token communicates with the vault to verify and complete the transaction.

Tracing virtual credit cards
A notable feature of virtual credit cards is their lack of traceability. Your virtual credit card cannot be traced back to your account. The card details provided with the virtual credit card are in no way tied to your account, so if intercepted, they might help protect your actual account details.

The fact that your card numbers cannot be traced may pose challenges in certain situations. If you use a virtual card to purchase something and then want to return it, you won’t have the card’s numbers to verify the purchase.

Similarly, if you’re checking into a hotel or renting a car and need to produce the card to verify the purchase, you won’t be able to. When making purchases with a virtual credit card, consider if there will ever be a need to present a physical card as part of the transaction.

Benefits of using a virtual credit card number
It can be convenient to use virtual credit cards, especially when you consider their compatibility with online shopping and digital wallets.

In addition to their convenience and global acceptance, they may provide an added layer of security. Because your actual card numbers are never shared with merchants, your account information could be protected in the event of a data breach.

Virtual credit cards use random numbers and codes that cannot be traced back to your actual credit card. Not all credit card issuers offer virtual credit cards, so check with yours if you’re interested in getting one."

Mer:
“Virtual credit cards are like physical credit cards but offer further protection against criminals that attempt to steal information. A virtual credit card masks the numbers of an actual credit card. A virtual credit card number is linked to your existing account, but the service provider or merchant cannot see your actual card number,” explains Dr Shaghaghi.

This implies that the actual account is not compromised if the service provider suffers from a data breach, such as in the recent Optus or Medibank cases"

https://buvei.com/blog/can-virtual-cards-be-traced-understanding-traceability-security/

"So who can trace and under what circumstances?
Issuer/bank networks: Yes, they can trace the virtual number as part of their internal transaction logs, compliance procedures, anti-fraud efforts, and regulatory reporting.

Merchants: Typically no—they receive only the virtual number, so unless additional information (like your account login, shipping address, email) links the transaction to you, they cannot easily link back.

Law enforcement: With subpoena power and access to bank records, they can trace virtual card usage similarly to physical cards, because the issuer maintains underlying logs.

Third-party fraudsters: If someone obtains the virtual number and uses it, the merchant may see the virtual number and possibly link it to repeated usage—but linking back to the underlying account or real identity is much harder.

So what does this mean in practice?
If you use a virtual card for an online purchase, the merchant is unlikely to trace the transaction back to your primary account directly.

But internally the transaction is still visible to your card issuer—and thus traceable if needed for auditing, dispute resolution, or legal investigation.

Claims that virtual cards are fully anonymous are misleading: they provide more privacy compared to standard cards, but not total anonymity."

"Yes, the underlying card is fully traceable by tax authorities. While Apple Pay obscures your real financial information from merchants using a tokenization process, it does not make your transactions anonymous to financial institutions or governments.

While the tokenization process successfully hides your real card number from the retail merchant to prevent theft, it remains completely transparent to your bank, the card network (such as Visa or Mastercard), and government tax authorities.

The Token Tracking Mechanism
DPAN vs. FPAN: When you upload a card to Apple Pay, Visa creates a DPAN (Device Primary Account Number, often called a token or device account number). Your physical card number is the FPAN (Funding Primary Account Number).

The Token Vault: Visa maintains a secure internal database called a Token Vault. This database maps every single DPAN transaction directly back to its original FPAN and the underlying bank account.

SPAN Mapping: If a tax authority references a token or a specific network-level sequence identifier (like a SPAN or Trace ID), Visa and your issuing bank instantly cross-reference it to uncover your identity and complete transaction"

Payment Account Reference (PAR): Card networks use internal tracking systems that link all tokens back to the master Funding Primary Account Number (FPAN).

While the tokenization process successfully hides your real card number from the retail merchant to prevent theft, it remains completely transparent to your bank, the card network (such as Visa or Mastercard), and government tax authorities.

The Visa Token Vault:
When you tap to pay, Visa processes the transaction through the Visa Token Service (VTS). Visa acts as the Token Service Provider. It maintains a secure, centralized database called the Token Vault. This vault maps every single DPAN/SPAN directly back to the real FPAN (the underlying card).

De-Tokenization for Settlement: To move funds from your account to the merchant, Visa must "de-tokenize" the transaction to route it to your issuing bank. Therefore, an absolute, unalterable digital log linking the token to your real bank account exists within Visa and your bank.

Legal Audit Trails: Tax authorities (such as the IRS or local European tax agencies) use legal instruments like court orders, subpoenas, or international tax sharing treaties to request records directly from banks and payment networks.

KYC Compliance: Because your underlying card is bound by Know Your Customer (KYC) laws, your bank account is tied directly to your legal name, physical address, and government tax ID.

Apple Pay is a privacy tool built to prevent retail data breaches, not a tax shelter. The network architecture guarantees that a clear line of sight remains from any tokenized payment back to the primary account holder's identity"

En KYC=Know your Customer måste göras enligt lag AML= Anti Money Laundering i Apple/Samsung/Google Pay, Curve och Virtuella kort.
