Before the highly anticipated "Revival," Eminem hadn't released an album since 2013's "The Marshall Mathers LP 2," which won the rapper two Grammy awards. The time gap created plenty of suspense for Slim Shady's large group of fans, which is why the flop of his latest album is such a surprise. Since its release last Friday, "Revival" has been skewered by reviewers or at least soaked with a bucket of lukewarm water. Here's what the critics had to say.

Eminem fans disappointed at the initial first week sales prediction of his latest album, ‘Revival’ (as revealed here), certainly won’t be happy with the latest dose of bad news for the project.
As we previously indicated, ‘Revival’ not only comes as Em’s first major label release to lack a major Hot 100 hit to precede it, but it is also on track to be his first since his 1999 to sell less than 300k after a full premiere tracking week.

Worst album of 2017
Eminem was someone (like a lot of people) I idolized back when I was in middle school. His albums Slim Shady LP and Marshall Mathers LP were masterpieces. The Eminem Show was alright but couldn't live up to the legendary album that it followed. Encore was mediocre. Relapse was bad but underrated (Eminem himself hated the album). Recovery was extremely poppy with the Skylar Grey and Rihanna features. MMLP2 seemed to attempt at a return to form, but ended up with poorly produced rap-rock beats and angry (but tired) lyrics. But here we are with this new album: Revival. This has to be his worst album he has ever created. In one of the songs, he poorly sampled "I love Rock and Roll" and tried to rap over it. In another, he shows off his white guilt by stating how embarrassing it is to be white and begins to regurgitate the same anti-Trump rhetoric throughout the album in order to prove how "counter-culture" he is when in reality he's an easy target. In one track he tries to rap over a trap beat and it ends up sounding like a homeless man drowning in a toilet. Most of the vocals in the album didn't even feel like they matched the beats. The album as a whole felt more like a commercial pop album for him to cash in and make more money than he already has. He really seems to have lost his mind and should honestly consider going back to being a drug addict since at least back then, he made LISTENABLE music.
"Your booty was heavy duty like diahhrea."
"Since I'm manure, she's a sewer and this time this piece of shit's running through her."
"I'm swimmin in that Egyptian river cause I'm in denial."

I knew there was a bottom in Em's discog, and he hadn't hit it yet. Until now. Encore, Recovery, and MMLP2 are all trash to me, but all three had the occasional good track. Like Mockingbird and Yellow Brick Road are great, great tracks with incredible writing. But on this it seems he's completely incapable to writing anything close to those red herrings. Occasionally, for like a bar or two, his flow is on point and for a split second I'm like, "here we go maybe he's gonna spit a competent verse" but then he goes right back to that super choppy flow where he pauses for a 3 seconds and then spits a stupid bar, pauses again, etc. It's exhaustingly terrible rap music, all of my friends are now better off top than Em is writing. The tables have totally turned. He's trash. The beat's are awful, awful, awful garbage, besides the beat for Framed. That was cool but Em sounds terrible over it. Chloraseptic sounds like something an 11 year old would make in Garageband in 30 minutes. Unforgivable. How is it this bad? How is he so bad everytime now? You'd think he'd link up with producers who can at least make competent beats, right? He's the biggest rapper ever, he could call up any rapper, any producer and get them to work with him, immediately. But instead he's got Rick Rubin (who can do dope shit, look at Yeezus) sampling I Love Rock n' Roll in 2017. Em is so out of touch it's embarrassing to listen to. I wouldn't be caught dead listening to this shit.
BUT
It's hilarious tho. His flow is so funny that I died laughing multiple times throughout this thing.
Nog för att Eminem brukar vara immun mot skandaler och kontroverser, men jag tror att hans attack mot Trump och mycket väl blir dödsdomen mot hans karriär.
