Idag den 23 mars 2017 öppnades i Gdansk II världskrigets museum

The Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk is a museum in Gdańsk, Poland which is devoted to World War II. The museum building is under construction with planned opening date in early 2017. Kwadrat architectural team won the architectural competition for the building of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk.

Poland's nationalist government has won a court ruling that will enable it to take over a brand new World War Two museum and reshape its exhibition to fit a narrower Polish perspective.

The museum in Gdansk presents the events of 1939-45 in a global context.

It does not give a conventional Polish history of the war and begins with the rise of authoritarian regimes in Europe and Japan after World War One.

In the centre of Gdańsk, near where the German invasion started on 1 September 1939, the museum has already become a landmark. Its building, with numerous sharp angles, stands in a neighbourhood destroyed during the war, and dives deep into the ground – resembling a bomb crashing into the earth – as if trying to bring to light the past buried in the soil.

The exhibition is focused on the impact the war had on civilians.

Det nationalkonservativa regeringspartiet Lag och Rättvisa, som inte själva planerat museet, anser att det har en för internationell och icke-polsk prägel. Nu har man slagit samman museet med ett eget planerat museiprojekt och sparkat chefen och grundaren. Agerandet har lett till starka protester och personer som donerat föremål till museet hotar nu att dra tillbaka dem.
