Fetmarkerade frågorna han svarade på.
Donnarumma received death threats and is worried about his security. Did you do enough for Donnarumma's security?
I am very sorry that he received threats, but as a club there's not a lot that we can do about that sadly. We always told him that we hoped/wanted that he stayed at milan. If he should rethink his decision, we would welcome him with open arms and I think the fans would too.
What about the threat to send him to the stands for a season?
There was no such threat. I have no problem if he plays the whole season. It's up to Montella to decide, week after week, who plays in that position. We can't risk anything, we have to look for other keepers. We can't have a player with an expiring contract, that might think about Real Madrid, especially in such a delicate position. I have to be sure to have a good and fit goalkeeper.
But the choice was legit?
Nobody ever doubted the legitimacy of the choice. But one thing is the legitimacy and an other thing is the ethic point of view. The bitterness comes from the way this was handled. It was also able to do this without damaging AC Milan, but the way it happened AC Milan was damaged by 100 million. If Donnarumma is worth this much at 18 years he also owes it to the club, to investments that were made, to the courage of those that startet him in the squad and launched him. It would've been enough if he said that he didn't want to stay. We would've renewed and put a reasonable release clause in the contract. And if the biggest/best club came to get him, that club would've had to pay this clause to Milan. Now the money that Real Madrid doesn't pay to Milan goes to the agent. I would've reinvested that money in italian football.
Did Donnarumma never say that he wanted to leave? Raiola said he changed his mind 15 days ago.
Never. Everytime that we have talked to him, face to face or on the phone, he always repeated that he wanted to stay. Until two days before his last meeting with Raiola. Raiola always told us that he wasn't able/available to deal with us. Two opposite stories.
Is it true that you couldn't wait any longer?
Yes. Donnarumma has an expiring contract and I have to be able to intervene with enough time in the market. The gathering is on July 3rd, two weeks are the minimum. If he'd have told me mid August that he didn't want to renew, what would I have done? It's a cautiosness that is common practice of a good DS. And they had two months to think about it.
Raiola blames Mirabelli in the end.
There is no "Mirabelli and Fassone", there's only AC Milan. Every move, every phone call was coordinated. Nobody should try to put a tension between us.
