US band in Paris attack back home, says Love overshadows evil
Los Angeles (DPA) -- Eagles of Death Metal, the American band whose concert at Paris' Bataclan theatre was stormed by terrorists on Friday, are now home in California, but they said Wednesday they were "horrified and still trying to come to terms with what happened in France."
In a statement on their Facebook and Twitter pages, the band known in shorthand as EODM mourned the victims, including four people in the band's close orbit.
EODM's merchandise manager and "brother" Nick Alexander and record company colleagues Thomas Ayad, Marie Mosser and Manu Perez were among the 129 people killed in the attacks. Eighty-nine people died at the Bataclan, making it the scene of the most carnage.
"Although bonded in grief with the victims, the fans, the families, the citizens of Paris, and all those affected by terrorism, we are proud to stand together with our new family, now united by a common goal of love and compassion," they said. In the statement headed by an image of hands making signs for peace and rock 'n' roll over a squared-off French tricolor, the band thanked French and US authorities, and "especially all those at ground zero with us who helped each other ... during this unimaginable ordeal, proving once again that love overshadows evil."
"Vive la musique, vive la liberte, vive la France, and vive EODM," the band said.
