Hur f@n kan man vara religiös i Sverige 2015 utan att vara en komplett idiot?

Nej jag påstår att idioteri har med folk att göra. Inget annat. Det har inte med att göra om du gillar surströmming eller inte, du blir varken bättre eller sämre idiot för det..

I agree, we shouldn't lump people together at all. what we should do is criticize the bad ideas that obviously lead unwanted actions, such as suicide bombings, beheadings, misogyny, discrimination against sexual minorities, cruel punishments etc.

Exakt. Men av en religiös övertygelse kan folk bli en sämre människa. Varför tror du inte att någons religiösa övertygelse kan få den personen att bli idiotisk?

Jag tror det krävs något mer. En icketro på gudar säger mig ingenting. Jag kan naturligtvis ha fel, men att göra något ont, eller idiotiskt, enbart för att man är ateist låter lite långsökt.

Ja det gör ju det och även enbart för att man är teist. Vilket jag sagt hela tiden. En idiot döljer sig bakom alla kostymer.

A person is always much more than her religious identity, the Pope isn't only a Catholic he also holds a Masters degree in chemistry for example. And if somebody says "I'm a theist", then you know much less about that person than you know about the Pope, and you can't really tell if that person is an idiot or not.

That being said, you know even less about an atheist than you do about a theist. The atheist might very well be a murdering psychopath, you don't know. But you do know that the atheist is less likely to believe nonsense based on faith alone, and that she is less likely to hold any dangerous religious beliefs that can cause idiotic actions.

I don't think it is very productive to discuss whether atheists or theists are the biggest idiots. It is more relevant to discuss which specific beliefs lead to specific actions from the person holding those beliefs, particularly bad actions. These beliefs can be both of religious and nonreligious origin. Atheism or theism by themselves probably do not cause evil actions.
