Madison threatened about a month ago to attack women in the same fashion as Sowell, said Eric Wilson, a neighbor who saw Madison frequently. Mayor Gary Norton said Madison gave similar indications to authorities.

"He said some things that led us to believe that in some way, shape, or form, Sowell might be an influence," Norton told The Associated Press.

Madison was arrested Friday after a police standoff. A woman at a small white house at an address for Madison said the family was shocked by the allegations. She identified herself as a family member and answered a few questions through the blinds of a window Sunday but refused to come out or give her name. It wasn't clear whether Madison has an attorney.

Madison was classified as a sex offender in 2002 when he was sentenced to four years in prison for attempted rape, according to court records. He had previous convictions in 2000 and 2001 for drug-related charges.

Wilson and others said Madison was a neighborhood fixture, constantly walking up and down streets and seen everywhere. Teenager Daniqwa Martin said Madison had offered her a ride in the past but she always declined.

One neighbor, Nathenia Crosby, said she was familiar with Madison and had seen him walking through the neighborhood. She said she had told him to stop chatting with her daughter and warned him after seeing him talk to her cousin.

"It's very scary, especially when he used to be talking to my daughter," said Crosby, 48. "But I told him he was too old to be talking to my daughter because she was only 19. When I found out how old he was, I said, 'You need to move on, she's too young.' "

Detectives continued to interview Madison, Norton said. He said authorities have "lots of reasons" to suspect there are more victims, but he refused to say why

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — The suspect in the deaths of three people discovered in East Cleveland will be charged with three counts of aggravated murder, officials said in a news conference this morning.Also, Mayor Gary Norton said one of the victims has been identified as Angela Deskins, 38, of Cleveland. Autopsies have been completed on all three victims, but two others remain unidentified.

"Three individuals who were minding their own business were killed senselessly by an individual with no regard for human life," Norton said. "As a community we are dealing with the tragedy, we are healing and we are strong."

A medical examiner said a cause of death has not been determined because of the decomposition of the bodies.

Angela Deskins has officially been missing since June 7, 2013, and it was a relative of hers that reported her missing to the Fourth District Police Department in Ohio. Now, she has been the first victim identified in the East Cleveland killings, according to WSFA.com on July 23, 2013.

Deskins' brother, Jermaine Padgette, has been taking to Facebook and the streets to try and find his sister.
“I miss my sister so much,” Padgette said hours after he learned she had been killed. “I’m hurt help me.”

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified two of the three victims. East Cleveland officials said Tuesday that that body found in the yard of an abandoned house on Saturday is that of 28-year-old Shetisha Sheeley.

Family members told NewsChannel5 that the third victim is 18-year-old Shirellda Terry, who was reported missing on July 10.

Shirellda Helen Terry, 18, and Angela Deskins, 38, died the same way, while Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner Thomas Gilson attributed the cause of death of Shetisha Sheeley, 28, to "homicidal violence by unspecified means.''

In an interview, Gilson said the advanced decomposition prevented authorities from determining a specific cause of death for Sheeley. He said the deaths of Terry and Deskins stemmed from ligature strangulation, meaning an object such as a rope or cord were used. He declined to go into detail, citing the investigation.

He also would not estimate when the women were killed.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — New charges against triple murder suspect Michael Madison accuse him of raping one of three women whose bodies were found in East Cleveland earlier this month.

A 14-count indictment released Monday also charges Michael Madison, 35, with six counts of aggravated murder and three counts of kidnapping in the deaths of Shetisha Sheeley, 28, Angela Deskins, 38, and Shirellda Terry, 18.

The indictment does not seek to impose the death penalty, but Joe Frolik, spokesman for Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy J. McGinty, said McGinty could seek to re-indict Madison with death penalty specifications.

Madison was also charged with three counts of gross abuse of a corpse and one count of having weapons under disability.

The indictment does not make clear the evidence that would suggest one of the women had been raped “by purposely compelling her to submit by force or threat of force.”

Authorities and volunteers have searched abandoned homes in East Cleveland thinking there could be more bodies, but so far none has turned up.
