Joe Rogan & Dorian Yates on DMT and Ayahuasca
I still don't understand why so many here are searching and searching to find anything that they can use as some sort of proof that tim was depressed.
He was not! Nothing points to a depressed person.
Given the choice between believing what you say about ayahuasca and what the American Journal of Psychiatry says about the risks of the drug, I think I choose the American Journal of Psychiatry, which is a respected medical journal that writes based on science and statistics, whereas you provide anecdotal (bullsh*t) evidence.
The active ingredient of ayahuasca is DMT (N, N-dimethyltryptamine), which is a powerful hallucinogenic substance. Once ingested, the drug will typically induce hallucinations. Consumed on its own, DMT is broken down by intestinal MAO-A metabolism, which causes it to be de-activated so to speak. Hence, to create the desired effect, the DMT must be prevented from being broken down by the human body. This is done ny adding a vine to the drink that contains MAOI (Mono Amine Oxidase Inhibitor).
MAOI is a very potent drug that affects the blood-brain barrier and has strong contraindications with multiple prescription medications, including possible fatal interaction with SSRI antidepressants, which of cause many people with mental health disorders take. Both MAOI and DMT can create profound changes to the nervous system and brain. For the above reasons, several psychiatrist have warned that people suffering from mental health issues should abstain from experimenting with the hallucinogenic drug. In an article published in the American Journal of Psychiatry in 2016, Gerard I. Fernando, M.D. warned of the risks that consumption of ayahuasca poses to persons with mental health disorders:
“Due to an explosion of media coverage, our patients may become interested in ingesting ayahuasca in hopes of treating their psychiatric conditions. Warning them of the possible dangers, particularly serotonin syndrome, could potentially save their lives.”
What Avicii sought to achieve by taking ayahuasca is not known. What is known is that the DJ had a history of mental illness dating back to his mid teens – years before he found international fame as a DJ – when the future star was still in school and spending his nights creating music in his boyhood room in Östermalm, Stockholm. Mental health problems that would grow increasingly prevalent in the years to come. Avicii’s alleged suicide is being mourned by fans of the DJ across the globe. However, it has also left a great impression on many who were not familiar with the artist’s music prior to his death on 20th April 2018. That the DJ’s passing has left such a significant impression on the world is likely due – not only to his undisputed musical talent, which many in the industry claim to be unrivalled – but also to his winning character so lovingly portrayed in the heart-wrenching documentary Avicii: True Stories.
