The Trump campaign appeared to disavow one of its most provocative policy proposals on Thursday, as Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana said explicitly that Donald J. Trump no longer wants to impose a temporary ban on Muslim immigration to the United States.

In a round of television interviews in which he was asked to clarify once and for all where the campaign stands on the proposal, Mr. Pence, who opposed the ban before becoming Mr. Trump’s running mate, declared the idea dead. The reversal is a significant one for the Trump campaign, which was accused of promoting a policy that was discriminatory and likely unconstitutional when Mr. Trump unveiled it in the name of national security last year.

“Every year they audit me, audit me, audit me,” an exasperated Donald Trump said at a primary debate in February. His personal federal income taxes, he claimed, had been audited by the Internal Revenue Service for more than a decade.
But the cause for his chagrin also offered Trump an escape hatch. He said he would not publicly release his returns until the audit was complete.

“I can’t do it until the audit is finished, obviously. And I think people would understand that,” he said. It’s a position Trump has clung to for months. But what is there to understand exactly?

There is no law prohibiting someone from making his own tax information public (audit or no audit), nor one compelling presidential candidates to release them. Yet every major party presidential candidate has since 1976.
Trump’s refusal to release his returns may buck precedent, but his non-disclosure goes even further. Trump won’t provide proof he’s actually under audit.

Wednesday on CNN, Jason Miller, a communications advisor to Trump, was asked if he could produce the audit letter.
“Mr. Trump has made very clear that he’s under audit, and those paperworks (sic) will go back to the lawyers and the accountants--,” Miller said before trailing off.

Two of the conservative news channel's biggest stars have turned their sharp tongues on one another after Sean Hannity accused Megyn Kelly of being in league with Hillary Clinton.
The clash began when Kelly said on her Wednesday night programme that both Mrs Clinton and Donald Trump avoid tough media interviews. She said the Republican nominee "will go on Hannity and pretty much only Hannity".
Hannity - a vocal supporter of Trump - fired back on Twitter, writing: "u should be mad at @HillaryClinton Clearly you support her. And @realDonaldTrump did talk to u."
