1784 (June 22): The first edict was issued. Karl Theodor banned all secret, unauthorized societies and communities across Bavaria.
1785 (March 2): A second edict specifically outlawed the Illuminati by name, labeling the group treasonous and heretical. It forbade recruitment and meetings under penalty of severe punishment.
1785 (August 16): The final, sweeping edict reiterated the ban with stricter terms, resulting in raids, confiscation of the group's documents, and the suppression of the order.

"The Illuminati—along with Freemasonry and other secret societies—were outlawed through edict by Charles Theodore, Elector of Bavaria, with the encouragement of the Catholic Church, in 1784, 1785, 1787 and 1790."
