"The scientific exploitation of the fairy tale of the “gas chambers” by the British and the Americans, continued the intensified over the course of subsequent trials, all of which were intended to make people forget other crimes, no less horrendous, perpetrated by the Soviets, began with the Belsen Trial, as clearly shown by Maurice Bardèche:
“To excuse the crimes committed in [their] conduct of the war, it was absolutely necessary to discover other, even more serious crimes, elsewhere. It was absolutely necessary that British and American bombers appear as the Terrible Swift Sword of the Almighty. The Allies had no other choice. If they had not solemnly affirmed this claim, if they had failed to prove themselves the saviors of Humanity, no matter how, they would have been unmasked as nothing but mass murderers themselves. If people ever stopped believeing that the Germans were monsters, they might turn around and take note of the Japanese and German cities destroyed by mass fire-bombing. There is therefore an obvious aspect of self-interested, self-serving face-saving in all British and American propaganda, and, to a lesser extent, in Soviet propaganda as well, in upholding the theory of German criminality”
