Ryska intellektuella skriver på petition - kräver slut på Kremls "krigshets"

The petition, reported by 'on by the Moscow Times, whose authors include more than 100 prominent rights advocates, scientists, journalists and politicians, has received over 3,000 signatures so far.

Its authors accuse Russia’s leadership of “deceiving and using people” by promoting “only one point of view” on state-run media: “the idea of a holy war with the West instead of developing the country and raising the standard of living of its citizens.”

“But no one asks the citizens of Russia. There is no public discussion. … The question of price is not discussed, but it is ordinary people who will have to pay this price — a huge and bloody price.”

A statement from the Congress of Russian Intellectuals was made public over the weekend as Russia continued its buildup of troops -- now estimated at well over 100,000 -- near the Ukrainian border.

"The flow of disturbing information about a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine is intensifying," the statement said.

"Russia does not need a war with Ukraine and the West. Nobody is threatening us, nobody is attacking us. The policy based on promoting the idea of such a war is immoral, irresponsible, and criminal, and cannot be implemented on behalf of Russia's peoples. Such a war cannot have either legal or moral goals.... Russian citizens are actually becoming hostages of a criminal adventurism into which Russia's foreign policy is being turned," it added.

The signatories include Lev Ponomaryov, an activist and founder of the organization 'For Human Rights.' Ponomaryov has been labeled a ‘foreign agent’ by Moscow’s Ministry of Justice over links to funding from abroad. Also on the list are Boris Vishnevksy, a leader in the liberal opposition party Yabloko; and Lev Gudkov, academic supervisor of the polling organization Levada Center, also recognized as a ‘foreign agent.’

The signatories do not specify which political figures they see as belonging to the “Party of War,” but claim that state media in Russia is urging people to aggression. “On state TV there is only one point of view, and that is the point of view of the supporters of war,” they write. “We hear clear threats of war from there, aggression pours out, and hate towards Ukraine, America, and Western countries. But the most dangerous thing is that war is treated as an acceptable and inevitable development of events.”

What a bunch of clueless gits. They really want NATO right at their front door with nukes minutes away. They have no idea that just caving in just emboldens NAO. Just pack the up and ship them to the UK or the USA, maybe they can use them there, as they are paid by the west anyway.
