"Interesting facts:
Single fathers are more likely to be divorced and single mothers are more likely to have never been married (NBM). 50% of single mothers are NBM status compared to 30% of single fathers who are NBM status.
Single Fathers are more likely to be white, older and more educated than single mothers. 56% of single fathers identify as white, while 33% of single mothers identify as white.
41% of single fathers were cohabiting compared to only 16% of single mothers. The Cohabiting single fathers were highly disadvantaged - younger, less educated, and more likely to be in poverty.
Single fathers make more money than single mothers. But, I am not sure if this study includes money paid by welfare, food stamps (SNAP, School lunch), rent subsidies (income based, section 8, vouchers, etc), healthcare, childcare, and other benefits. While there are specific government assistance programs that target women and children, there is few or no such programs that target single dads. The assumption seems to be that single moms and women need help but struggling single dads don’t.
There is a 900% increase in single fathers from 1960 to 2015."
