One could say that, and many have tried to argue (unsuccessfully) that Stalin's atheism is what made him do his evil deeds.
The problem with the argument is that:
1) it assumes (falsely) that the Orthodox Christians were persecuted because of their faith in God. I think Christopher Hitchens has done some work in that the area, if you're interested you could look that up.
2) atheism by definition is a lack of belief in God's, so you can't really take it away and replace it with "nothing" (i.e. lack of belief) as I did do with the example of the homosexuals being thrown off the building. You need to replace it with a belief in some sort of deity. And if you replace it with any other deity than the Orthodox Christian, you would likely still get the same persecution of the Orthodox. I.e. if Stalin believed in Allah instead, persecution of the Orthodox Christian would still have happened. and then your argument that it was because of his atheism they persecuted Orthodox Christians falls.

That is not the truth. There is not anything by necessity in a livsåskådning that would "make people narrowminded", but of course there might be. People are usually more or less narrowminded for other reasons, but I don't think we should go into that.
What you seem to fail to realize is that atheism isn't really a "livsåskådning", it is just a lack of belief in God's, nothing more. All people are much more than an atheist or their religious identity. that said, religion is a greater part of a religious person's identity than atheism is part of a atheists identity.
