Kärnfull artikel om parallellen mellan Garciá i Lille och García i Roma:
Citat:
The Frenchman was hailed as a tactical genius for transforming Les Dogues in 2010-11 from a defensive, counter-attacking team to an all encompassing, free-flowing attacking outfit which won the League and cup double. In the 4-3-3 system to which he rigidly sticks at Roma, he was able to get the best out of his full backs at Lille. That included converting Mathieu Debuchy from a midfielder to a marauding wing back - a transformation Garcia is attempting with Alessandro Florenzi in Rome.
Garcia supplemented flair players Eden Hazard and Gervinho with a midfield which provided a mixture of determination, desire and creativity from the likes of Rio Mavuba, Florent Balmont and Yohan Cabaye. Daniele De Rossi, Radja Nainggolan and Miralem Pjanic are being asked to replicate those roles at Roma.
A Ligue 1 title in 2011 was ultimately followed by a steep drop-off, where Lille finished third in the next season, drawing a series of matches around the turn of the year. The following season saw Garcia’s men fall to sixth, drawing 14 games and winning just 16.
Again, there was a festive slump, the side recorded just two wins across December and January - drawing four of their nine matches across that period - and Garcia left at the end of the season.
Fundamentally, Garcia does not appear to have a plan B up his sleeve when his side is experiencing a difficult run. The team has been struggling for fitness and form, yet the French tactician has been fielding virtually the same XI game by game, asking them to follow a tactical game-plan that just isn't working. Much like his final year at Lille, teams have figured out how to nullify the Giallorossi's pattern of play - sit deep and close the space.
