The Kurds probably got their RPGs from Syrian Army depots they captured. The weapon is simple but effective, which is why it is a favorite of irregular groups like the YPG all around the world.
In this video, ISIS brought up a T-55, which was captured either from the Iraqi Army or the Syrian Army, to support their fighters who are advancing against Kurdish positions. The tank engaged Kurdish fighters with its 100mm main gun, firing at Kurdish fighters twice.
After the second shot is fired, a RPG struck the top of the turret, likely penetrating the thin armor on top and destroying the tank.
Now that’s what you call firepower.
