Bryssel: Fyra personer ihjälskjutna i anslutning till judiskt museum

Mannen uppges vara fransman och kan enligt polisen ha kopplingar till väpnade syriska islamistgrupper.

Enligt Le Figaro, som citerar källor inom utredningen, reste den nu gripne 29-åringen till Syrien 2013 och ska där ha fått kontakt med islamistiska grupper. Han har vägrat tala med polisen under det första dygnet efter gripandet.

French citizen Mehdi Nemmouche, 29, was arrested Friday at a customs inspection at the Saint-Charles bus station in Marseilles, while he was on a bus from Amsterdam via Brussels.

Nemmouche had in his possession an AK-47 Kalashnikov rifle, the same type used by the Brussels shooter, and a GoPro portable camera, also though to have been used by the gunman. He was also carrying a revolver and ammunition and among his packed clothes had a baseball cap that resembled that worn by the shooter seen on CCTV footage of the attack.

Nemmouche, a resident of the city of Roubaix, was known to French security services and is suspected to have fought alongside Jihadi elements in Syria in 2013, returning only in March 2014, Le Figaro reported. Police suspect he may have turned to radical Islam during a jail sentence for robbery, which he served in 2012, La Figaro reported.
