spasmolysin

TFF-2 (Trefoil factor-2) is known also as spasmolytic protein (abbr. SP or SML-1) or spasmolysin (Hanby et al, 1993; Itoh et al, 1996). It was identified initially as a contaminant in commercial insulin stocks prepared from porcine pancreatic extracts. The protein is an inhibitor of smooth muscle contraction and gastric acid secretion in pigs and is a growth factor for some cultured cells. May et al have reported that TFF-2 promotes the migration of breast cancer cells.
