Såhär löste någon annan problemet på en Delldator:
1. Boot the system using a Windows XP or 2003 CD to start the clean install (in my
case I used W2K3)
2. Delete any partitions that may be listed then create two partitions (in my case
C drive is 60GB, D Drive is 17GB)
3. Select the D drive for the install the installation will format drive C and then
format drive D
4. Walk through the normal installation on the OS (XP or 2003) which will be on
drive D, should be at the desktop with all drivers identified with no problems
5. Remove the CD from the drive and then insert the Windows Vista DVD, do not do
the install when the auto run kicks off, create a folder on drive D then copy the
contents of the DVD into this folder.
6. Access the Internet and download the NIC driver if the system is a Dell
Precision Workstation 340, you will need this because the network adapter will not
be identified. I copied the hard disk version and extracted it to Drive D
Windows XP version of the NIC driver - 3Com 3C905C Integrated
Network Card

7. From Windows Explorer open the folder where the Windows Vista CD was copied to
and double-click Setup.exe to start the installation.
8. Walk through the Windows Vista Installation as normal, please note be sure to
choose Drive C as the location to install Vista.
9. Once the installation completes you will be at the desktop all drivers will be
identified except for the NIC, open device manager and select the problem device
which is the Ethernet adapter choose to update driver browse to the folder that the
NIC driver was extracted to and the adapter will be installed.
According to some documentation on Windows Vista we are able to shrink or extend a
volume, if you only want the one drive then you should be able to delete the second
partition which will free up 17GB and then in Disk Management extend the volume and
now Windows Vista is installed and using all available drive space.
Please Note: First option would be to check with the hardware vendor for possible
system updates i.e. BIOS or firmware.
