Ninas resa av Lena Einhorn får man för sig att det typ var mamma Einhorn och två andra judar som stannade kvar i Warszawa och överlevde, medan tillgängliga fakta tyder på att det rörde sig om tiotusentals.

Holocaust, Gunnar S. Paulssons “Demography of Jews in Hiding in Warsaw,1943-1945”:
“The Berman Archive and other sources (Bund and fragmentary Zegota lists) lend concrete support to post-war estimates of the number of Jews in hiding in Warsaw, against scepticism from some sources. On the basis of the data analysed so far, it would appear that the aid organizations had between them some 8.000-8.500 people under their care in the Warsaw area in the spring and summer of 1944, and that the total number of Jews in hiding during that period was between 15.000 and 20.000. This was the remnant of a larger number, estimated at 27.000, who had managed to hide at one time or another.---
For the sake of comparison, the case of the Netherlands might be examined. There, 20.000-25.000 Jews are estimated to have gone into hiding, mainly in Amsterdam, of whom 10.000-15.000 survived the war. The overall survival rate in Holland was thus 40-60 per cent, and in Warsaw, after levelling the playing field, notionally 55-75 per cent. Thus the attrition rate among Jews in hiding in Warsaw was relatively low, contrary to expectation and contemporary perceptions. The main obstacles to Jewish survival in Warsaw are seen to have been the Hotel Polski trap and the 1944 uprising and its aftermath, rather than the possibility of discovery or betrayal.”
Denna essä, här sammanfattad med några citerade meningar, är också lite kul:
s.124, Vol.II av ovan nämnda verk, Sybille Steinbacher, “In the Shadow of Auschwitz: The Murder of the Jews of Upper Silesia” (hon kan förstås inte historievetenskapligt påvisa några "massmord" överhuvudtaget):
“The integration of Jews into arms production led to a slowing of the process of murder that was peculiar to the region. In contrast to what one might expect given the close proximity of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the Jews of Upper Silesia were delivered into the machinery of murder neither remarkably rapidly nor especially thoroughly.---
For that reason, the province surrounding Auschwitz became a haven for Jews fleeing from other parts of occupied Poland. Several hundred Jews, especially from the Government General, tried to insinuate themselves into the East Upper Silesian forced labor camps in an effort to save their lives.”
