In my late teens I was experimenting with a lot of different drugs, mainly psychedelics, e.g peyote, LSD and ecstasy. One day "my guy" said he had really good LSD on hand and asked if I was interested. Off course I was. We met up late one evening and made the deal and he warned me the stuff was really potent. I said I got it, no worries.
A couple of days later I dropped one half of one of the papers, they were tiny little squares that seemed to have been wet at some point and then dried out. I put it under my tongue and waited for it to kick in. Nothing happened. Hmm, maybe it's just slow to come up, let's wait some more. After a few hours with nothing happening I gave up. I had some errands to run so the trip would have to wait. I felt nothing for the rest of the day.
Fast forward a couple of weeks and I decide it's a great day for a trip. This time I take the other half of the acid that I previously ate. Same story. Nothing happened, and at this point I'm getting pissed. I've been duped, robbed. I asked my guy like "WTH??". He reassured me that the stuff was really potent, he would never lie to me, and that I should be careful with the stuff. He suggested maybe I had too much food before hand.
Two weeks go by and I decide to eat a whole square. Same goddamn story. Now I'm actually pissed, I get in touch with the guy and tell him I need to get some freebies next time we meet. He agreed, although... We would never meet again.
About two months pass, I'm feeling good and it's a nice evening. I'm thinking about eating a couple of ecstasy pills just to have a nice chill time in the couch. I go to the kitchen to get the pills when I see the rest of the forgotten acid in my little stash box. I bought five squares previously so there's three left in there. I'm thinking to myself "What the heck, let's eat the rest and see if they are all duds."
Same procedure as before. I put all the acid under my tongue for maximum effect. The first hour is just like before, nothing is happening, and I'm contemplating eating the ecstasy as well. Then out of fucking nowhere it feels like someone hit me in the back of the head with a sledgehammer.
"Ladies and gentlemen this is your captain speaking. This flight is going to take about 36 hours at top fucking speed and our final destination is the depths of Hell. No drinks will be served during the flight. Strap the fuck in."
I can't breath. I hear my own heart beating. My vision is pitch black but at the same time I see absolutely everything. It was like someone turned on a strobe light and with each flash I was getting punched in the chest and falling through time and darkness. Shapes of creatures was popping up everywhere and very quickly disappearing again. I heard echoes of "die, die, die, death, death, death" over and over again. I had absolutely no control what so ever. At one point I'm on the floor with my face in the carpet and just as soon as I notice I'm standing on top of my bed mumbling about something that I can't remember. Everything shifts and feels like cuts in a movie. From out of nowhere waves of extreme cold and heat washes over me and is rapidly shifting and becomes more intense with every second. The ceiling collapses and rebuilds itself again and again and again. I start pulling long strands of hair out of my mouth and I feel my stomach getting emptier by the second. I begin to peel my own skin and all of a sudden I'm on the floor in my bathroom and I'm all wet.
This nightmare of a trip is somehow all happening in a weird third person perspective. I am not inside myself. I see multiple versions of myself running around tripping inside my house all at the same time. Some versions of me don't have any clothes, some are younger, some older. I even talk to some of them at some point. It's like everything is in a loop, replaying over and over again.
After many hours of this nightmare mode I sort of "wake up". There is only one me, my hands are my own, I can feel my face again, and the spiraling has stopped. I look around and the house is a complete mess. I'm wearing only a sweatshirt and one wet sock on my foot. I'm afraid to check the time in fear of knowing if the trip has just begun or peaking, or if it's finally over. I stand still, not moving, for at least a half an hour I'm a statue, just waiting for another Me to pop up. I finally muster up the courage to go to the kitchen and check the time on the microwave.
This can't be right... Has it only been four hours? I was a little unsure when exactly the nightmare started so I start checking my phone to see the time and then I see what the date is. I've been tripping for 36 hours straight. In my phone there are missed calls from friends and family, a ton of text messages and notifications. Thank God I couldn't function enough to answer my phone, I thought. Still pretty out of it I start messaging people saying I had a bad case of food poisoning and had been in my bathroom all this time and couldn't reach my phone.
During the come down I drink a ton of water and make myself a frozen pizza. The next couple of days I go from euphoric and happy to a crying, panicking mess. It was very strange. I think the experience was so emotional that my body and mind didn't really know how to process it. Slowly I was becoming myself but it probably took a couple of months to actually feel normal again.
And that is the LSD trip that made me quit psychedelics for 25 years.
Cheerio!
