Instead, Paramount Global, CBS's parent company, settled the lawsuit on July 2, 2025, for $16 million. This settlement included an upfront payment to cover Trump's legal fees, case costs, and contributions to his future presidential library or charitable causes, with potential additional allocations for advertisements or public service announcements supporting conservative causes. The settlement released all claims related to CBS's reporting up to that date, including the Texas lawsuit and a threatened defamation action. No court ruling on the substantive merits of the case was issued due to the settlement.
