Den som vill ha en dos av extrem metal kan ha en hel del att hämta i just Småland (om ett halvår). Då är det nämligen dags för en tredje upplaga av Metal Theatre Festival att gå av stapeln.
Platsen för evenemanget råkar vara samma som första två vändorna: Teatervallen som är beläget bakom Kalmar Teater uppe på vallen.

Once again, Kalmar faces a Danish invasion, but this time it won’t be swords and shields clashing. Instead, a storm of technical death metal will shake the city to its core and grind the castle into dust! To date, Baest have amassed two EPs and three full-lengths. They’ve racked up 300+ live shows and held some of Europe’s biggest festival stages hostage. Singles “Genesis,” “Ecclesia,” and “Crosswhore” have racked up over 2.5 million streams. There’s no stopping Baest.

Koldbrann, formed in 2001 in Drammen, Norway, is a fierce representative of the raw, unfiltered spirit of black metal. Their name, meaning “gangrene” in Norwegian, reflects the band’s grim aesthetic and their cold, abrasive sound. Göteborg/Malmö/Sundsvallsbaserade CRAWL är i grunden ett väsen som för tankarna till den gamla skolans dödsmetall men står lika stadigt med andra foten i nersvärtad kängpunk och grindcore. CRAWL har funnits i scenen sedan 2012 och har hyllats för debuten “Rituals” men även senaste släppet “Altar Of Disgust” från Transcending Obscurity Records som sticker ut tydligt från dödsmetall-eliten. CRAWL låter som en perverterad korsning mellan Skitsystem, Entombed och Nails. Döden är ständigt närvarande och stämningen är låg. Smörj nacken med tigerbalsam för whiplashen kommer vara ett faktum efter CRAWL gått av scenen.

Stockholmsbaserade MASS WORSHIP är ett mångfacetterat metalband som på ett genreöverskridande sätt tillför en ny dimension av tyngd och svärta till det redan framstående skandinaviska metalsoundet. De kombinerar klassisk och teknisk dödsmetall med progressiv doom/sludge och en rejäl näve punkattityd. De kan beskrivas som den förlorade bastarden till Entombed och Meshuggah, där deras musikaliska DNA också bär spår av inflytande från band som Mastodon, Neurosis och Anti-Cimex. MASS WORSHIP skapar en unik ljudvärld som sträcker sig över olika metalgenrer och levererar en kraftfull och mångskiftande upplevelse för lyssnarna.

Dethrone was formed in 2011 in Värnamo, with the ambition to play straightforward and hard-hitting death/thrash without unnecessary frills. Their debut EP was very well received and led to a gig at Metaltown festival. The following year, their debut album “Humanity” was released on Hoborec records and was praised in several places, including receiving an 8/10 rating in Sweden Rock Magazine. The follow-up, “Incinerate All,” was released in 2016 on Massacre records and also received very positive reviews. Their latest release, the EP “State of Decay,” also on Massacre records came out in 2020, and with the original drummer back in the band Dethrone are hungrier than ever to release new material and get back on stage. A new album is under production and it promises all the ingredients that that band has become known for, with no compromise. Dethrone delivers an intense experience where melodies, blast beats, and razor-sharp thrash all have a place, all packaged into a punch to the face!

Tibalt kliver ner på Jorden för att via sin genrebreddande “dödsjazz” sprida Världssjälens varningar till den undergående mänskligheten. Fullängsdebuten, den åttadelade konceptskivan “Armageddon” (november 2023), tillkännagav spådomen om Urmoderns hämnd och människosläktes sorgliga sorti. Hösten 2024 bjöd på tre singelsläpp i rad som tillsammans formade EP:n “By Pride And Faith”. Denna gång blickar Tibalt inåt, uppåt och ut i den tomma, oförlåtande oändligheten bortom oss. Med en teatraliskt scenshow och en experimentell tolkning av dödsmetall är kvintetten fast besluten om att locka fler följare till sin olycksbådande men nödvändiga rörelse.
VILT
Vilt is an emerging force in the Scandinavian extreme metal scene, delivering a raw and untamed blend of blackened ferocity and atmospheric depth.
