Nya namn regler, fy fan:
"Hello dear Tutors!
I´m glad to introduce the name rule changes to you. Please take the time to acquaint yourself with the new name rules
To start with, I´d like to tell you that our main motivation to revise the name rules was to meet our players interest. We know from experience that many of you wish for much more tolerance when it comes to character names. Considering this fact and the numerous name discussions that arose on this board, it became clear that the rules need some more clarification.
However, please keep in mind that no name that has been legal under the old name rules will become suddenly illegal under the new name rules. Secondly, we will not unlock any character names that have been illegal under the old name rules but would be legal under the new regulations.
We have divided the name rules in four subgroups in order to cover as many categories as possible:
* 1 a) offensive name: Names that are insulting, racist, sexually related, drug-related or generally objectionable.
Names like Bastard, Slut, Jew Hater, Sadomaso Man, Child Abuser, Ganja Smoker, Charles Manson, Mongoloid, Adolf Hitler, Alcoholic, Aids patient and Feces eater can be reported under this reason. Contemporary tyrants such as 'Adolf Hitler' or 'Josef Stalin' whose dictatorship are linked with genocide should be reported under offensive name, not for having an 'unsuitable name'. Please note that notorious persons such as Edward Geins can only be reported if they are considered to be contemporary personalities. The rule of thumb is that they must have lived after 1900 in order to be reportable. Notorious people who were known for their cruelty but have lived before this date, are considered to be historical persons, e.g. Genghis Khan or Vlad Draculea and are therefore legal.
* 1 b) invalid name format: Names that contain parts of sentences, badly formatted words or nonsensical combinations of letters.
I love bananas, Redknightofdawn and Pklelkgjsd are illegal and should therefore be reported. Special characters such as '-' or '`' will be added to the name filter and can thus not be created anymore. However, you do not have to report names that contain a hyphen as they are legal under the current name rules. As already mentioned, names which have been legal under the old name rule, will not become illegal under the new name rules. Furthermore, we have decided to allow two spelling mistakes per character name. Apart from this, we plan to revise the name filter, to avoid badly formatted names.
* 1 c) unsuitable name: Names that express religious or political views, contain advertising or generally do not fit into Tibia's medieval fantasy setting.
Accordingly, names like Dalai Lama, Joseph Ratzinger, Pope, Allah, Antichrist, Communist, Buddhist, George Bush, Vladimir Putin, Runescape Warrior, Coca Cola can, Microsoft Warrior, Car mechanic or Aircraft carrier are illegal. A word on people express religious or political views: Only well known persons - heads of state and church, spiritual leaders - should be reported under this reason. The mayor of the Brazilian city Ponte Nova is not as well known as for example George Bush or Lech Kaczynski.
* 1 d) name inciting rule violation: Names that imply or incite a violation of the Tibia Rules.
Gememaster, System Admin, Cheater Macroer, Master Sharer, Customer Support member or Guido Amera are just a few examples which should be reported for implying or endorsing rule violations / faking official positions.
Furthermore, I´d like to point out the most significant changes, the new name rules bring along.
The following rules will be abolished:
# name not describing person: To meet our players wishes, names no longer have to refer to human beings in order to be legal. You may now create names such as Fast Arrow, Purple Rain, Emotion, Lonely or Dreaming.
# name referring to real life celebrity: Since fictional characters got constantly reported for real life celebrities (Jack Sparrow, Jack Bauer) we have decided to remove this rule. You may now name yourself Britney Spears, Evanescence or David Beckham.
# name to fake player identity: We have implemented several features which protect our players from being scammed. You can easily check if you are talking to the right person if you have a look at your vip list. Another opportunity to make sure to send for example money to your in game hubby is the option show levels in console which will appear as a standard feature in the default setting. If your husband is a level 68 knight, you can be sure that you are talking to the wrong person if the level behind the name shows only level 14. Thirdly, you can put all your friends on the white list and only allow players from this list to private message you. After all, it does not need a character with a similar name to scam another player. A person with a random name could pretend to be your "hacked" friend on a new account asking for items. You always should be careful before you send items or gold to other players. A rule that prohibits similar character names will not protect you from it.
# names referring to countries: It is not a big deal to figure out the mother tongue of a player called 'Seba Niszczyciel'. The nationality of most of our players is mirrored in their name, therefore it is about time to discard this rule. Kuba from Warsaw, Gaucho Druid, Roman Feather, Spanish Dancer or American Warrior are valid names as soon as the new name rules have been set up.
A word on guild names: All these rules apply to guilds as well, except for defining relative sentences like Sent from Heaven or Fallen From Grace, which are accepted choices to name a guild.
Further sub-rules which will be legal, are:
# names written in plural: This rule caused immense problems during the last months as it was not consistent. Names like 'Tigers of tomorrow' or 'Bear paws' are legal in future.
# names that refer to Tibia items: As we decided to abolish the 'name not describing a person' rule, this one does not make sense anymore. 'Skull staff', 'Sandra Magic Light Wand' or 'Magic Plate Armour' will be valid names soon.
# abbreviations which obviously describe human beings: Dr, Mr, Ms might not be pronounceable at first sight but it´s obvious that they refer to a person if they are accompanied by a name. However, abbreviations like 'Unicef' or 'Fifa' will remain illegal as they do not fit into medieval times.
# names in which consonants are used to imitate vowels / Q-Rule: These rules are obsolete and no longer needed as we will not lock names which are prounounceable, e.g. 'Xman' or 'Qleo'
# weekdays, months and seasons, e.g. Monday, January and Fall
# Tibia spells, e.g. Adori Gran, Adura Vita
# Tibia cities, e.g. Venore, Darashia, Cormaya
The name report reference will give you detailed explanations on certain subjects when it is about time.
Please note that the current name rules are valid until an official announcement has been made around mid-April. Keep in mind that this information is for your eyes only, therefore you must not discuss the new name rules with other players!
I hope you get used to the new name rules. Please note that I´m not going to answer questions regarding the new rules - this will happen in another thread in about 3 weeks - as this is an information thread only. Nevertheless, I appreciate your feedback.
Happy Easter!
Kind regards,
Iscen"
