Via ett sidospår på jobbet har jag kommit ikontakt med ett företag som erbjuder malning av stenmaterial. Malningen sker i stora kulkvarnar och företaget försöker sälja in sig med att de uppnår ett väldigt högt ”Blines” värde.
Blines ska baracker mått på yta/vikt och anges oftast i cm2/g. På något sätt hör det samman med mätmetoden, Blines används när partiklarna är så små att det inte fungerar att göra siktkurvor
Problemet är att jag hittar ingen information om vad Blines innebär, hur det mäts och referenser.
Troligen är stavningen/uttalet av namnet fel.
Blaine är namnet på en standardiserad metod för att mäta specifik yta.

In the field of research dedicated to the application of new testing methods, a quite promising goal could be a method that allows the estimation of the specific surface area (SSA) of powder materials in a short time. This sort of method is already widely used for production control in the cement industry (Chmelar, 2006).
This method is based on measuring the time required for the passage of a certain volume of air through a layer of the investigated solid material and utilizes a
Blaine’s air-permeability apparatus or a Blaine meter.
This equipment was selected for this study due to its low cost, ease of operation, small size (volume of the packed bed in the permeability cell is 1.854 cm3), and commercial availability. The equipment is also well documented and has a clear industry standard ASTM C204-18 (ASTM, 2018). Moreover, preliminary tests made with the equipment and the wide range of different mineral powders showed a good correlation between Blaine SSA and the filtration properties (Palmer et al., 2010).
