MESSAGE TO THE WORLD: Concerned that the sidelining of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt due to the coronavirus infection may be sending a signal of weakness, the Pentagon’s top leaders Thursday sought to assure allies and adversaries alike of America’s undiminished military might.
“No one should doubt the readiness of the U.S. military to respond and defend the American people if required,” said Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, at a virtual town hall yesterday. “We've got the forces and we've taken appropriate mitigations,” he said. “For example, our nuclear strategic forces. They are being mitigated against COVID.”
