Can fetuses sin? It is a question both of theology and of the human morality that gave us religion. In Scripture, it is stated that the Fall was the result of Adam and Eve eating a fruit after being told that they would learn what was good and evil. While the Bible should not be taken literally and a talking snake is obviously a metaphor, such an element in a human religion says something about morality that an action perpetrated before awareness of good and evil was still an evil action. We see similar things in modern laws, in most countries people do not get away with breaking the law because they did not know about the existence of a law.
In the same way as we can condemn a three year old child for being cruel to animals, can we also condemn a fetus for some form of evil? Can a fetus sin? Since there is scientific evidence that men's sexual orientations are determined by prenatal hormones, can a male fetus that falls for the hormonal temptation of homosexuality be considered to commit a deadly sin from which there is no redemption? Not only did Jesus say that the one who have the desire to sin have already sinned in the heart, but the fact that religion is rooted in human nature (I believe that God placed the ability to replicate and evolve in the first microbe billions of years ago with the intention for life to diversify into a biosphere including beings whose evolution of social complexity brought forth belief in God) implies that the word of Jesus reflects human nature and human morality.
Does this mean that I and other gay men sinned as fetuses when falling for prenatal hormones and developing as gay? More broadly, can fetuses also commit other sins? For example, is there a prenatal sin for developing psychopathy?
While I write best in English, I have learned some Swedish and can read replies in Swedish fairly well.
