Höghus (Grenfell Tower) London i lågor - 72 döda (2017-06-14)

Det finns problem med gamla byggnader då brandceller inte fanns då (innan asbest, så 1955 ungefär) och dessa byggnader saknar ofta bra brandskydd om inte en riktig renovering gjorts, men oftast brandtätas det vid nya genomföringar.

Där det har suttit asbest, eternit som exempel, sätts igen så jag sa, ibland expanderas också brandcellen.

Kan tillägga att våra miljonprogram är brandsäkrade. Varje lägenhet klassas som en brandcell ut mot trapphusen (nödutgång).

120 lägenheter och 200 registrerade som boende där fick vi som information tidigare så 600 kan nog stämma.

Om detta stämmer OCH om prylarna funkat som tänkt så borde ju inte trapphusen och lobbyn på varje våningsplan ha varit rökfyllda vilket borde ha underlättat evakuering (även om fasaden brann kraftigt). Dock verkar ju systemet kräva manövrering ett våningsplan i taget. Det nämns ju även att det skulle funnits givare/brandlarm på varje våningsplan men detta motsäger vittnesuppgifter från de boende som hävdar att sådant saknades. Minst sagt oklara omständigheter.

The cause of the fire is so far unknown, but residents had previously raised concerns that a 'catastrophic' event could happen. An action group of Grenfell residents said their warnings fell on "deaf ears" after highlighting safety concerns about the block.

The group said there was one entry and exit to Grenfell Tower during improvement works at the block in Latimer Road and it had issues with evacuation procedures at the building.

Following the fire, the group posted: "All our warnings fell on deaf ears and we predicted that a catastrophe like this was inevitable and just a matter of time."

Muslims awake due to Ramadan may have saved lives

Heroic residents of the Grenfell tower saved their neighbours by banging on their doors and guiding them to safety.

Local community centres and religious buildings have opened to help those who have lost their homes, and left with nothing but their pajamas.

Some put their own lives at risk to rescue others.

Rashida, a local resident, told Sky News how Muslim’s observing Ramadan may have saved lives in the tower block, as many of them were awake.

She said: “Most Muslims now observing Ramadan will normally not go to be until about 2am maybe 2.30am.

“Until they have their late night last meal. They do their last prayer.



“So most of the families around here would have been awake and I think even with the noise with the helicopters, it would have brought a lot of attention to a lot of residents non-Muslim as well that would have thought something's going on that’s not quite normal.”

She spoke of how tight-knit the community was, and how many different nationalities lived in the tower.

She said: "It’s a very diverse area, we have all nationalities, all religions.

“We all live peacefully amongst each other, there is not much crime higher than anywhere else.

“You can walk around safely late at night… we all know each other.

“We all know each other, there is a very high population of Moroccans, and for some reason we all live close to each other. Literally everyone knows each other.”

Sex pers bekräftat döda nu. Lär stiga.

The Met Police has confirmed that six people were killed and the number is expected to rise.
Commander Stuart Cundy, from the Metropolitan Police, said: “Our thoughts are with everyone involved in this truly shocking fire at Grenfell Tower.

“I can confirm six fatalities at this time but this figure is likely to rise during what will be a complex recovery operation over a number of days. Many others are receiving medical care.”

Baby caught after being thrown from window

A baby was caught by a member of the public after being dropped from the burning Grenfell Tower, a witness has said.

Samira Lamrani said she saw a woman try to save a baby by dropping it from a window “on the ninth or 10th floor” to waiting members of the public below.

She told PA:

People were starting to appear at the windows, frantically banging and screaming. The windows were slightly ajar, a woman was gesturing that she was about to throw her baby and if somebody could catch her baby.

Somebody did, a gentleman ran forward and managed to grab the baby.

I could see people from all angles, banging and screaming for help.

Us members of the public were reassuring them, telling them we’ve done what we can and that we’ve phoned 999, but obviously the look on their face was death.

My daughter’s friend said she observed an adult who made some sort of homemade parachute and tried to lower himself out of the window.

The more I looked up, floor upon floor, [there were] endless numbers of people. Mainly the kids, because obviously their voices, with their high pitched voices – that will remain with me for a long time. I could hear them screaming for their lives.

A resident called Zara said she saw a woman throw her son, who was about five, from a fifth or sixth floor window.

She told LBC: “One woman actually threw her son out of the window. I think he’s OK. I think he might have just had some broken bones and bruises.”

She said she thought it was the fifth or even the sixth floor. “There was another woman screaming ‘My baby, my baby, I need to get out, I need to save my baby’. But we were just looking up. We couldn’t do anything. There was nothing we could do.”

Alice, who lives in Barandon Walk, watched the fire as it spread quickly up the highrise after starting at about 1.30am.

She said she had seen one person jump from the building.

“It started on a corner, but it was one side near the corner, and then it just went up,” she said.

“After a few hours, maybe 3am, that’s when people told us to get out. They kind of started slowly blocking the roads.”

Alice said the fire spread at an “unbelievable” speed. “Things were just falling off, the debris, it was shocking how fast it spread. I think it was new material - it’s just been renovated. There’s been fires there before and that’s never happened.”

Michael Paramasivan , 37, a builder, lives on the 7th floor of the tower and managed to escape the blaze. He lives with two others in the flat who fled with him.

“I’ve lost absolutely everything,” he said.

“The most chilling moment was when I suddenly realised it was a fire,” he said.

“Between 1 and 1.30 I was dozing in and out of sleep. I then smelt something. I got up and looked around to see if it was an electrical fault but there was nothing.

“Then I looked through the spyhole. There was smoke and people running

past. We just ran straight out down the stairs.”

Paramasivan said the material on the outside of the building went up in flames rapidly. “It just went up like that,” he said, gesturing wildly.

“There’s no fire alarms in the corridors, no sprinklers, nothing. There’s only smoke detectors in the flat and they didn’t go off.”

Räkna med att det bor ca 25 personer per våningsplan. Utbröt branden på 3-4? Tror nog det kan handla om upp mot 250-300 döda.

Sex döda enligt BBC men det lär stiga ju högre upp de kommer i huset.

Sex personer, det lär väl öka rätt fort. 23 våningar och det vrålbrinner, om endast 1% omkommer (finns väl siffror på runt 600 pers i huset?) så har de haft turen på sin sida!
