2-(ethylamino)-1-(4-fluorophenyl)propan-1-one (4-fluoroethcathinone; 4-FEC ) is a synthetic cathinone, structurally related to 4-fluoromethcathinone (flephedrone, 4-FMC), where the ethyl group replaces the methyl group. GC-MS analysis of fluorocathinones, including 4-fluoroethcathinone has been described previously [1]. The substance was identified in a seizure of 80 kilograms of white powder on 29 December 2014 in Barajas Airport (Spain), by the Spanish Customs Surveillance Service. It was a delivery that was en route from China. The substance was analytically confirmed using GC-MS, IR and NMR by the Spanish Customs Surveillance Service Laboratory.
