After being held in the Greek Orthodox monastery of Mar Thecla in Maaloula, they were reportedly moved to the town of Yabroud, about 20 km (13 miles) to the north, which is now the focus of a government military operation.
Speaking to reporters at the border, Syrian Greek Orthodox Bishop Louka al-Khoury welcomed the news. "What the Syrian army achieved in Yabroud facilitated this process," he said. - Reuters

It is unclear exactly who had held the nuns and why they had been released now. However, reports in various media said the deal was brokered with the Nusra Front, one of the radical groups fighting President Bashar Assad’s forces. Lebanon’s General Security Chief the head of Qatari intelligence were reported to have played a major role in the negotiations.
Earlier, the Nusra Front had reportedly been demanding the release of 500 militants held in Syria and Lebanon in return for the nuns, according to the Al-Mayadeen satellite channel.
Soon after being abducted, the nuns were moved to the nearby rebel-held town of Yabroud 20km away. The date for the release was reportedly set to coincide with a ceasefire in Yabroud, which began at sunset on Sunday. - RT

De gjorde detta i ett videoklipp där nunnorna förklarade att de mådde bra och trivdes. Antagligen till följd av rädsla för att säga annat, ingen trivs eller mår bra när en islamistisk grupp för bort en från sitt hem. Det är bra att förhandlingarna gick igenom. Dessa hade antagligen inte kunnat bli framgångsrika om inte SAA påbörjat sin offensiv mot Yabroud. Rebellerna har sannolikt känt sig pressade och därmed lämnat ut nunnorna mot en eventuell vapenvila. Vapenvilan är inte bekräftad, men misstänker att det är som RT rapporterade.

Goda nyheter. Men man frågar sig hur långvarig vapenvilan blir? Det är också märkligt att RT skriver om vapenvilan medan Reuters inte nämner den trots att artiklarna är ganska lika.
