Detektiver: Ett miljonscoop för Flashback: Kenya

I write in English to look more international and cool, if that is ok.

A guy called TheLake has managed people to give about 90000 USD (630000 SEK, and rising) to a child orphanage in Kenya.

The guy sends pictures of all the stuff he bought for the money. The story is that he protected all children from bandits a few days ago, and got hit with a machete. He is a real hero!

However, lets hope this is not to good to be true:

It all looks secure and legit! I do not want to change this view, but I urge everyone to consider that is is easy to scam people of money over the net.

A quick net forensics check on TheLake, just to make sure:

1) Send message and get him to click on a secret link to a server, check log for IP adress. Bingo. ” 62.24.111.242 - - [28/Jan/2012:15:09:14 -0500] "GET /articles/Kenya-124767 HTTP/1.1" 404 - "http://www.reddit.com/message/unread/" "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.2.25) Gecko/20111212 Firefox/3.6.25"”
2) Check probable location of TheLake: http://ip2geolocation.com/?ip=62.24.111.242&lang=en . Good He is in Kenya!
3) Check what TheLakes IP number (which MAY be dynamic) have donwloaded lately: http://www.youhavedownloaded.com/?q=2A444286DC5C783603391843CDE292EC4F23B30F Ah, USB Disc Security Software! So the lake can encrypt stuff on a movable memory!
4) Check and other activity in connection with the same IP number: http://www.anti-scam-forum.net/showFullThread_1316539612.htm Ah, someone tried to scam people on a dating site from this IP number.
5) What more: http://www.voy.com/73301/7162.html. Someone trying to sell nothing for 25 dollars on the same IP adress.

This does not say anything about TheLake – this IP number might be used by many others in the same household and in other households since the allocation of IPs to subscribers is usually dynamic.

However, it would be good with some more verification given the reputation of the IP adress he uses.

Check out this issue all detectives. The world believes in this right now, and so do I want to do.

This picture looks a bit fake. Is is one of the "evidence" TheLake has sent to prove that the money is received by the guy hit with a machete:

Issues with picture:

1) No EXIF information in the file, which is a bit odd.

2) Pic looks manipulated with some filter if zoomed in on his arms.

3) The papers lines looks gone where the text REDDIT is.

4) It looks like a field around the REDDIT text.

5) The paper and text have some blue color in it, suggesting someone has manipulated the white balance, maybe to conceal that the text "reddit" is pasted into the paper.

I don´t know, what do you guys think?

Vafan är detta? Är kanske dum i huvet men fattar noll :S

2) Vet inte riktigt vad du tänker på där.. Jag tycker bara det ser ut som bilden är tagen med en skit kamera.

5) om du inte ser det så är hela bilden väldigt blå och "kall". Inte bara pappret alltså.
