First off, I wanna elaborate on my thoughts on luck, coincidence.
Luck exist. You are lucky if you you beat the odds, if you have 5% chance of winning and you do, you are lucky. On the other hand, if you have 5% chance and try 14 times and don't win, you are unlucky, since you have a (0,95^14= 0,48*100-100=) 52% chance of winning at least once.
In general, those who succeed are those who try till they win, not those who try once or twice -- lose -- and blame bad luck for the fact that they didn't succeed.
I said, I didn't think I was lucky to meet "you", and with "you" I meant a person that I could make friend's with. This is with the same logic, I was on XXX for at least XXX hours before I met "you" with the goal to meet "you". Maybe I was lucky to meet you that soon, maybe I was unlucky to not meet you sooner.
The only thing I know is that I am very happy that it was YOU I met.
Furthermore, I look upon life only as a matter of chances. Every day you are faced with numerous chances, chances to make new friends, chances to learn, chances of getting sick, chances of death etc. etc. Those who never take any chances will never be lucky (nor unlucky), and usually it is these type of people -- people who don't see the chances in front of them -- that feel unlucky. Chances are also hidden in places where one might not look, for example: chances to learn is most likely hidden in failure which people tend to blame on bad luck, which they can learn nothing from.
Also, "unlucky people" tend to focus their attention on all the times they weren't lucky and say: "Why would I take chances, I'm never lucky anyway".
Then there are those who focus on what they do have, that remember all the times they were lucky and that, thanks to this mindset, feel lucky.
Thing is, If you in your life are faced with 10 million chances and take them all, the chance that you will be a lot more/less lucky, than someone else who takes 10 million chances, is pretty small.
The fewer chances you take on the other hand, the bigger variance you will face, which means that you are more likely to actually end up unlucky. To explain with the same example; If you take 500 chances in your life, the chance that you will be more/less lucky, than someone else who takes 500 chances, are pretty big. So, the more chances you take the smaller the odds of failure will be.
Lesson to be learned: Don't you ever let setbacks let you down, always, and I mean always, try again.

This is what winners all have in common: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZlXWp6vFdE
Very important is that you also understand that life, apart from lottery, include skill. The greater your skill, the better your odds, the less variance you'll have to battle, which results in greater chance of success with less effort and setbacks.
Example:
1) If you have great skill in the field you operate you might have 60% chance of success.
2) If you have weak skill in the field you operate you might have 30% chance of success.
How many chances do you need to take to have a 90% chance of success?
I don't think I'll have to do the math, I think you get it.
An advice is to look upon your way to success as a climb up a steep mountain wall. You are very likely to scar your knees, to feel scared but focus not on the scars nor on the fear. Focus, at all times, on the journey up the mountain.
A few quotations on the subject:
"Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity." - Seneca, Roman philosopher.
“I'm a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.” - Thomas Jefferson, Author of the Declaration of Independence.
“Nature creates ability; luck provides it with opportunity.”, Francois, French writer
Lastly, I wanna mention these who find luck without effort. A common situation to be lucky in, is to win the lottery, no one will probably ever have the odds to win the jackpot of any lottery, how degenerated many times they might try, since the odds of winning the lottery in general is smaller than the odds of being struck by lightning.
People who struggle to win, or to, as I like to put it, earn their luck, often end up very happy and satisfied. Not because of the fact that they have won, only because of the struggle, the struggle is the way to happiness, or rather happiness is enjoying the path to it.
Looking on lottery winners on the other hand, studies shows that a year after they have won the lottery, they are on average just as happy as they where before. That is: Unhappy stay unhappy, happy stay happy.
People think that they want a result, that the result will make them happier. That is not true. Happiness exist only in the mindset and usually people who set out to chase their passions and work hard for success are the people that have this mindset.
