Sometimes it feels like people travel to experience places, while other times it feels like people travel mainly to capture content from those places.
I’m curious how others see this shift.
Do you think social media has genuinely improved travel inspiration and discovery, or has it made travel feel more rushed, performative, and less authentic?
Would be interesting to hear different perspectives from frequent travellers.
Not only social media is changing our travel behavior, but also media themselves.
When Madonna made her video to the son "Like A Virgin" where she was standing on a gondola in Venice, people suddenly went crazy and everybody wanted to go there. People were posing like Madonna on gondolas and the hospital were full of tourists banged their head into one of the bridges.
So nothing new here.
I want to create my own path and I feel comfortable in East Europe. Therefore I love countries like Slovakia, Romania and Hungary. I know that Cluj-Napoca in Romania ain´t giving me the same stunning pictures as Paris would do. But significant for me is to have a good time and I had a awesome time in Cluj-Napoca among very friendly Romanians. I wouldn´t have the same experience from Paris. I would just have some nice pictures, but in the end it´s not worth anything if you lack the nice experience.
