Abstract
Evidence suggests associations between COVID-19 patients or vaccines and glycometabolic dysfunction and an even higher risk of the occurrence of diabetes.

Vaccine is another possible factor that may cause pancreatic damage due to COVID-19. Several highly effective SARS-CoV-2 vaccines have been developed for COVID-19 prevention; however, the potential side effects of these newly developed vaccines still require comprehensive understanding. Further research is currently being conducted on the protective and adverse effects of vaccines on human health. Laboratory data is crucial in identifying both short-term and long-term vaccine side effects. Although rare acute side effects have also been reported, such as acute pancreatitis after vaccine injection;12,13,14,15 It still remains uncertain whether vaccine injection results in permanent or temporary changes in pancreas and glucose metabolism.
(...) This case highlights a speculated relationship between new-onset Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA) (presenting with diabetic ketoacidosis) and the COVID-19 vaccine. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9924027/
(...) Discussion
A meta-analysis of eight studies of nearly 3,700 patients revealed an average of 14.4% for new-onset diabetes on admission in patients hospitalized with COVID-19. Few cases have been reported with new-onset DM with DKA/HHS after administration of the vaccine, with one case series describing hyperglycemic crises precipitated by Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Our case illustrates a link between COVID-19 vaccination, specifically Pfizer-BioNTech, with latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA). There has only been one other case published by University of Toledo in 2022 highlighting the link between LADA and the vaccine. It has also been noted that the COVID 19 vaccines have also precipitated cases of Graves Disease, another autoimmune condition. This case can further exhibit not only the link between COVID-19 vaccines and diabetes but also the link with autoimmune conditions entirely, and more research must be done to understand the connection between the vaccines and these diseases. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1530891X24002672
Correlation between COVID-19 vaccination and diabetes mellitus: A systematic reviewEller 2024 i AACE Clinical Case Reports:
Conclusion: There is a complex relationship between vaccination and diabetes with a bidirectional effect. Vaccination may contribute to the risk of worsening blood glucose in diabetic patients and diabetic patients may have a lower antibody response after vaccination than the general population. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37383586/
Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus Caused by COVID-19 mRNA Vaccination: A Case Report and Literature Review of 17 Published CasesOch sedan finns ett antal fall beskrivna, kanske ett 20-tal, till exempel ett i J Med Cases 2024:

Conclusion
New-onset type 1 DM has been reported after COVID mRNA vaccination. Clinicians should maintain a high index of suspicion and pursue early testing for the same to reduce adverse outcomes and improve long-term prognosis. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2376060524000567
(...) Here we report a 45-year-old woman who came to the hospital complaining of polyurea, polydipsia, and weight loss 3 weeks after the first activation dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Her hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) upon presentation was 9% without any prior history of DM. She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), as the anti-glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) antibody was positive and complicated during follow-up with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). This is the first case in Saudi Arabia suggesting that the COVID-19 RNA-based vaccines might cause new onset of T1DM, complicated by late DKA. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39610907/
