A Russian and a Ukrainian met once in a dugout...
The video shows a conversation between a Ukrainian serviceman and a legionnaire “Blanche” on the front line in Kharkiv region, filmed from a GoPro. Followed by footage of combat operations near Liptsy and the evacuation of a fellow soldier.
"I'm just a regular hairdresser from Moscow, but somehow I've found myself fighting for Ukraine in this conflict."
"Fighting for Ukraine? How did that happen?"
"Well, they kind of turned me in that direction and now I'm directly involved in the war. I had some prior experience at an airfield, but this is the first time I've been in real combat."
"That's quite a dramatic change from being a hairdresser. What made you decide to join the fight for Ukraine?"
"To be honest, I've never really liked the Russian government. When you're doing stupid things in your own country, you can try to change things from the inside. But when you start interfering in someone else's affairs, that's a whole different story."
"So you crossed the border from Russia into Ukraine to join the fight? That must have been risky."
"Oh yeah, I'm a bit of a crazy one. I just went straight through the border, crossed over from Russia to Ukraine. The border guards and security service weren't too happy about that - they kept me detained for a week."
"Wow, that's intense. And now you're actively participating in the military operations?"
"Yeah, I'm part of this group called the Freedom of Russia Legion. We have different ways of getting into Ukraine, even through Europe. But I just went for the direct approach."
"It sounds like a dangerous situation. Are you worried about the risks you're taking?"
"Nah, I'm past that. The worms have probably already eaten whatever's left of me by now. But we need to keep moving, keep the distance, and dig in. Let the Russians sit there and curse the snakes. We've got work to do."
"Alright, stay safe out there. Wishing you the best in this fight."
"Thanks, we'll do what we can. Now let's get going, low start, let's move!"
