Stephen Schwarzman år 2016 startade upp ett ytterst ambitiöst utbildningsprogram på det kanske mest anrika universitetet i Kina. Liten bakgrund från 2013:

Blackstone founder Stephen A. Schwarzman today announced a $100 million (¥600 million) personal gift to build and endow an elite scholarship program in China inspired by the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship program created in 1902 by British statesman Cecil J. Rhodes. A simultaneous fundraising campaign with a goal of raising $200 million (¥1.2 billion) will make the program the largest charitable effort in China’s history with funds coming largely from outside the country. The “Schwarzman Scholars” program will be housed at Tsinghua University in Beijing, one of China’s most prestigious universities, dedicated to academic excellence and integrity, and the interaction between Chinese and Western cultures.
Said Stephen A. Schwarzman, “When Cecil J. Rhodes created the Rhodes Scholarship program in 1902 to promote international understanding, Europe was at the center of gravity for the world’s economy, and the United States, the British Empire and Germany were the world’s most influential global players. While the 20th century was defined by U.S. ties to Europe, there is no question that the nature of China’s international relationships will play at least as important a role in this century.”

George W. Bush, 43rd President of the United States: “This program’s goal of promoting greater understanding between China, the United States, and the nations of the world is noble and critical. Our future leaders must not only talk to one another, but listen to and understand one another. This program will help future leaders bridge cultural divides to find common ground and advance shared interests.”
Tony Blair, Former British Prime Minister: “The fact that this program is bringing people to study in China is a big innovation, but one that is hugely critical in the world that’s now developing. China is the world’s largest country by population. It’s one of the great powers of the world. Understanding it, being able to interact with it, knowing about its culture, its thinking, its people – this is of fundamental importance to the future of the 21st century world we live in.”
Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank: “I’m so pleased to congratulate the inaugural class of Schwarzman Scholars, along with Steve, and everyone who helped make this program possible. We live in a world that is deeply interconnected. An issue, a crisis, a movement, an idea, can spread swiftly from one country to another. That’s why the most effective leaders of tomorrow will be those who can collaborate successfully across linguistic, cultural, and geographic boundaries. The Schwarzman Scholars program will offer the tools and experiences needed to address the great global challenges in front of us.”
Mark Zuckerberg, Chairman and CEO of Facebook: “Thanks for everything you’re doing to train this next generation of leaders and promote understanding between China, the United States, and countries around the world. I had a chance to visit Tsinghua University last year and meet with the students, faculty, and staff there. I can’t think of a better place to study, and learn about China, and how we can work together to build a better global community. ...
Michael Corbat, CEO of Citigroup: “Citi is proud to partner with the Schwarzman Scholars program. We believe this program will help us foster our commitment to develop and connect future leaders with China and strengthen international relationships.”Brian T. Moynihan, CEO of Bank of America: “Congratulations to Steve Schwarzman and Tsinghua University for this initiative. Bank of America is pleased to be part of helping to make it possible.”

Schwarzmans ambition med det hela är:
Citat:
Founder, Steve Schwarzman, shares his thoughts on the creation and idea behind Schwarzman Scholars on CNBC.Com:
Our ultimate vision for the impact of the program is equally as ambitious as our initial dream to get the program off the ground. We want to see a future U.S. Secretary of State sitting across from a foreign diplomat, who each share a common bond as Schwarzman Scholars. We want to see groups of young entrepreneurs, who previously forged a relationship in Beijing at Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University, discussing best practices across oceans to help their local communities. We want to see Fortune 500 CEOs from Shanghai and Seattle, who once studied together as Scholars, partnering to strengthen global economies.
Over the next 50 years, we are going to create a cohort of more than 10,000 Schwarzman Scholars. This is a network of relationships that can be activated over a lifetime in the service of reducing the antagonism, partisanship, and rancor that could threaten global peace.
