In his teens, Elvis’ hair started to darken naturally to a dirty blonde or light brown shade. Memphis Mafia member Jerry Schilling – who was just 12 years old when he met a 19-year-old Elvis during a touch football game in Memphis – wrote about the King’s hair during that first meeting in his 2006 memoir, Me and a Guy Named Elvis: My Lifelong Friendship with Elvis Presley.Nu har hur som helst en burk med hår från Kungens huvudknopp sålts för möcke pängar. En så bisarr nyhet att jag måste posta den nånstans, och den här tråden verkade vara lagom lämplig.
“His hair,” Schilling wrote, “though impressively combed, was an average-looking sandy brown – not the dyed, jet black that would become so familiar later on.”
During his late teens and young adult years, Elvis began to dye his hair black – once, even with black shoe polish – on a regular basis. He also grew out his sideburns, which was considered a bit scandalous at the time.
One of Elvis Presley’s most iconic jumpsuits sold for more than $1 million over the weekend.
But something quite odd also went for big bucks.
A jar of the King’s hair, with “extensive documentation” to prove it’s not faux fur, fetched $72,500, Kruse GWS Auctions said in a news release.
“This collection of hair was saved from haircuts given to Elvis Presley by his personal barber, Homer Gilleland, over the years and represents the largest and most well-documented collection of Elvis’ hair in the world,” the auctioneer described the memorabilia, now someone’s newly acquired treasure. “This isn’t a lock of hair that you typically find, but is a massive, baseball-sized specimen which has not been offered for sale in nearly 20 years.”
Whoever won the auction might even feel like they got a bargain: The hair last sold in 2002 for $115,120.
