Varför är folk så rädda för mutationer av detta coronavirus? Är det för mycket zombievirus-filmer som ligger bakom? Det är väl positivt att coronavirus har en förmåga att mutera snabbt. Det ligger inte i virusets intresse att vi ska dö. Då dör ju viruset också. Viruset vill leva och på sikt kommer mutatione r som inte är dödliga selekteras och de värsta formerna dö ut.
Because this virus is already incredible successful at being infectious, the chances of mutation are lower. The long incubation time allows it ample time to spread already, and if it mutates into a more dangerous variant, that incubation time will be the end of many lives.
The reason dangerous viruses die out is because people usually die before they can successfully spread it further — this forces a selection bias, where less dangerous variants of the virus are the ones that find higher success in spreading and therefor thin the herd. This is not true of COVID19, and there’s nothing to say a virus as infectious as this HAS to mutate into only a weaker strain. It’s very possible by the time it has passed around the world that it will have evolved into an almost completely new, stronger illness — like the Spanish Flu. We simply don’t know.
