Good evening guys, I am Italian 🇮🇹 and I read a lot of bullshit about the situation in Italy so I decided to make it clear!
I will not try to minimize and say that the situation is under control: the situation is serious. This is the REAL version of the facts:
We were the first country in Europe to be affected by the virus and our government until two weeks ago underestimated the problem, until the virus exploded in northern Italy, near Milan and so schools and universities closed and they took some restrictive measures, but ONLY in that area. Within a week, the virus also spread to the closest regions, and upon the news of the infection and the consequent closure of the universities, THOUSANDS of students and workers returned to central-southern Italy in their hometowns. Consequence? They brought the virus with themselves and the virus has spread across the whole country! So, now we arrive at the famous total lockdown that is going on right now : they suspended flights to and from Italy and within Italy, schools and universities closed, many closed shops except the basic necessities, including supermarkets and pharmacies, ban on leaving home. If you want to leave the house, you must bring with you a self-certification where you write the reason why you left, this document will have to be given to the police who will surely stop you. The only reasons you can go out are shopping, going to the pharmacy, medical visits. In all other cases you risk a fine and a criminal conviction. In any case you must go out alone and if there is someone on the street you must keep a minimum distance of 1 meter.
Regarding the spread of the virus, I can tell you that the spread is immediate. The first symptoms occur on average after 5 days and the most common are coughing, shortness of breath, fever and muscle pain. In case you have these symptoms you must call the police or a number specially created for the virus, and you will be monitored by phone. YOU MUSTN'T go to the hospital. Lot of Italians are in panic, supermarkets have been stolen and some primary goods such as toilet paper you don't find them.
In addition, masks and hand sanitizers are nowhere, our government has declared that we need 90 million masks, China has given us masks but they are not of good quality. Today we have had 175 deaths in a single day and the total infections are around 18,000. The mortality rate in Italy is more than 7% and this scares a lot. We wonder how it is possible that our mortality rate is much higher than that of China (personally I think China has not told the whole truth about the number of deaths). Hopefully this will end soon. If you have any questions, ask. I will try to answer them all. Thank you for the attention.
