Hello and thank you for your question, there was a lot of purposes with the action in the mosque 29/6.
The date was chosen because of what's happening in Egypt 30/6, as a message against the Islamic Brotherhood and islamization with stronger sharia-laws after the Arabian Spring. The action was led by Aliaa Elmahdy, and if you are not familiar with her story you can find it by google. Also Meriam from FEMEN Tunisia was part of the action, and she's a muslim against islamism, while Jenny from FEMEN Sweden is a cultural relativist against oppression.
One message is that our bodies are Our bodies, and not for anybody else to decide over in a oppressive way; for example in the name of religion or culture, or sexism. Human rights are priorities that comes before culture or religion. Our bodies are not for anybody else to feel ashamed, and we are not responsible for uncontrollable lusts in anybody else, etc.
Also if this demonstration was made in Egypt or Tunisia, for example, we would have received an enormous amount of death threats and more, and we want to make a point in that it should not be like this, ..yet we are receiving loads of this threats right now from abroad. A woman's breasts are as natural as a man's breasts, and with sharia-laws this stand point is not an option. We were during the action called "uneducated whores from hell that should be punished" and told that we made the action because we were not well-fucked, etc, and this is an example of what we are demonstrating against. We believe in individual freedom of choice without oppression against others. An endless amount of girls and women, like Aliaa and Meriam, can tell about several types of oppression from living in an islamic culture, and there's a lot of disturbing stories of the same kind from young women in Sweden too.
Our political messages on our bodies were "Gender Equality" "My body No sin" "Social freedom now" "No sharia in Egypt and the world" "Women wont stand in the back" "Fuck islamism" "My body is mine not somebodies honour" and we were also shouting "Nudity is freedom" "Women freedom" "No sharia" "No oppression" and "Fuck your morals". "Fuck your morals" is in solidarity with Amina in Tunisia who is in prison since 19th of May without a trial, which you also can google more about if you're not familiar with what's going on, and why Amnesty is involved in her case.
We believe in freedom of expression, and of course we also support Pussy Riot and their protest in the Ortodox church. We went to the mosque in Stockholm when there was few people and no prayer time, and we took of our shoes, to show our respect to individuals sacred space - but we do have a limit for our respect. We find it very disproportionated to speak about disrespect against a sacred space as something worse than the disrespect towards living beings; children, women, homosexuals, etc.
The way women are being treated in the name of Islam, in their homes, in the streets and in prisons, should make a lot more headlines in media than our bare breasts in a mosque! Now what we Femen made is being used in a debate in Sweden that talks about neocolonialism, islamophobia and racism on one side, and on the other hand multiculturalism and culture relativism combined with anti-feminism, and we find it weirdly ignorant as the action was led by Aliaa accompanied with Meriam and Jenny - with their different backgrounds showing how this is more complex.
Femen is for worldwide individual freedom, and we can't really find this freedom in the polarized debate climate in Sweden. If the action can give a broader perspective to this debate, that's another purpose fulfilled with the demonstration. Femen is against theocracies and we use our breasts as a political tool to make our message heard.
Another purpose of the action was for our message to reach some of the women and men under oppression, to give them a hope for change, and strength to not give up. Women spring is coming and there will be millions of us. Solidarity with all people standing up against religious oppression!
Welcome to ask more questions.
Skägglurkarna i moskéns reagerade alltså med att utbrista att aktivisterna var: "uneducated whores from hell that should be punished" and told that we made the action because we were not well-fucked.
