In 1974– 1975, the height difference between “Norse” and “Lappish” in Finnmark Coun-ty was approximately 9 cm in men and 8 cm in women [7, 30]. In 2003–2004, the height difference between Sami and non-Sami in 24 rural municipalitieshttps://munin.uit.no/bitstream/handl...=2&isAllowed=y
in Northern and Mid-Norway was approximately 6 cm in both sexes [4, 33].
In 2012–2014, the height difference between Sami and non-Sami in 10 mu-nicipalities in Northern Norway was approximately 5 cm in both [34]. These fi gures indicate that the average height difference has diminished over time, but comparisons must be made with caution due to different geographical areas included in the sampling and variations in def i nitions of Sami ethnicity.
The Lapps were 3 cm shorter than the Finns, but body weight and BMI were similar. Serum lipids and diastolic blood pressure were similar in both groups, but systolic blood pressure was lower in the Lapps (134 mmHg vs. 139 mmHg, p<0.05). It is concluded that the diet of reindeer herders is high in fat, especially saturated fatty acids, and thus atherogenic. Although the Lapps consumed considerably more reindeer meat and margarine and less milk products than the Finns, only slight differences were found the lipid pattern.https://www.sciencedirect.com/scienc...71531796001133
