Ok att den utspelar sig i samma värld som Re2 men det säger inte myvcket.
Zach Cregger, regissören bakom den hyllade Weapons, är som bekant mannen bakom den kommande Resident Evil-filmen. Han vet att det han bestämt sig för att göra med filmen inte kommer göra alla nöjda. Detta främst eftersom han valt att berätta en helt ny historia som inte har något med de tidigare spelen att göra.
I en intervju med Playstation Blog säger han att även om filmen inte följer någon av spelens berättelse så påminner den ändå om hur de är uppbyggda.
Cregger utvecklar;
"That feels so cinematic to me. So I wanted to tell a story that could take place in the Resident Evil world, but wasn't telling a story that the games had already told. To me, I would feel like there's kind of no winning there if I were to tell Leon's story, because the games do such a great job. It would just be kind of redundant, and ultimately, I think, disappointing. So I would rather just kind of celebrate everything I love about the games by telling the story that could exist on the sidelines of one of the games."
Filmen utspelar sig i "ungefär" samma värld som Resident Evil 2 och Cregger säger att han försökte hålla sig till hur spelen fungerar;
"I wanted to keep true to like [in the games], you start with a pistol, you graduate to a shotgun, and then eventually you find an MP5. You're always worried about how many bullets you have, and you're getting injured and all those things. So it was such a fun challenge for me to try and write a game as a movie."
Gällande just att inte alla kommer att vara nöjda så vet Cregger precis vad det kan bero på. Han säger;
"I think some of the fans are only going to be happy if I tell the story of the games. And I'm not doing that, because I feel like I wouldn't do it justice. I feel like the games do such a great job of telling that story."
Gällande kring vilket spel han hämtat mest inspiration från så avslöjar han att det han spelat mest är Resident Evil 4. Cregger säger också att vissa föremål från det spelet är kopierade exakt till filmen. Men att publiken får se alla dessa "easter egg" när filmen väl har premiär på bio den 18 september.
